kent
I've just finished clear coating a couple of cranks and realized that i left out a paint detail .Can I paint the detail (throat patch) on top of the D2T then re-coat ? I use createx paint if that matters . Thanks in advance . Kent
Stonepointer
I have not even started to paint mine yet, but from what I understand a lot of people precoat with D2T to seal their lures before putting on primer and paint and then put another coat of epoxy over the paint. I am thinking with the way this stuff behaves, the throat detail might give a slight stand-offish or 3D type effect, unless you paint it all over again; this might depend on how thick or thin your epoxy coat is. . j27
I use d2t to seal mine before painting. I use createx as well and then top coat. No problem.
gunnr
I paint the basecoat of white then cover with D2T, that way if I mess something up, I can easily wipe it clean and start over. I also use the D2T between paint layers for the same reason, if I have something I like it won't get screwed up because it's covered with the D2T. With the relatively short drying time of the Devcon, I can do the next layer fairly quickly. BTW, I'm using createx water based paints. BobP
Short answer - yes, you can paint on the epoxy and then recoat the lure. If you wait more than a couple of days, you may want to lightly sand the unpainted epoxy areas on the lure to insure best adhesion. The new coat will make it clear again. jcori3
When you say use 2t on the lure and then prime and paint and seal again with 2t is this just for wooden lures? What is the process on clear plastic blanks? I have been just priming white and painting and then seal with 2t or dn.
RayburnGuy
You don't have to seal plastic lure bodies as they are waterproof. When folks talk about "sealing" a lure we are talking about applying a waterproof coating to a wood lure to keep it from soaking up water if the top coat fails.
