Newbie , Hello

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to say hello to everyone out there. I've been reading this forum for a little while now and although I dont know anyone, I feel as though I do. I finally registered in this group and have been wanting to start to pour my own soft plastic baits. I have read all your topics and have looked at your galleries and am still extremely interested in learning how to make my own soft plastic baits...I've gained insight thru all your posts and have seen your opinions and your galleries and still am interested..Please forgive me if I ask stupid questions in the not so distant future as I am still finding my way around here... Bit still, I wanted to say hello instead of lurking...Thanks again for all of your help and info, insight that you all have shared with me

Its not as scary as it seems just jump right in and start pouring.

Been reading everything and watching the you tube vids, I will jump right in, just got to make sure I'm educated enough before I burn my bldg down :)  Thing is, I want to drop the money into the star shooter system that bearbaits has, and I want to handpour...but I also want to know as much as possible as I can.....soaking it all in :)

The biggest smallie I've caught out of the New River was about 21".  That was back in the day when I could catch over 100 smallies in a day, and there was an honest chance of sticking an 18" on every cast.

The New has muskies and walleyes as well.

The Yadkin River I live closest to gives up 17" fish regularly, and the biggest I know of being caught was just under 22".

My biggest out of the Yadkin was 19".  I've only caught a couple that size out of it, but there are much bigger ones there.

I stuck one last week that doubled my loomis.

The Yadkin also has large mouth and spots.  They say there is chain pickerel...they say.  I haven't caught one.

You need to research the Haw River.   There are true trophy large mouth there.

Don't ever under estimate moving water for trophy potential.

If you want to break away from the crowds, get a kayak, canoe, raft or inflatable pontoon and hit a river.

jigs, flukes, and spinnerbaits...bottom, in between, and top...all you need.

You're slightly more than an hour and a half from good small mouth water, and 30 minutes from great large mouth flows.

There is no bass season.  It lasts all year round here.  Let me know when you want to get wet.

Sounds good Patrick, I actually caught my pbl largemouth out of the haw river. Got 'em on topwater a couple years back..was 6.5 lbs. I have heard tale as well about 10 and 12 lbers coming off the same point as I was fishing but havent seen anything over 8 out of the park I fish at. I am actually buying a new jon boat here shortly with a couple of trolling motors attached other than that I'll go with a co-worker from time to time at Buggs Island, Kerr, Mayo, Falls, and Jordan..we make our rounds :)  Again, thanx for the offer, will definitely take you up on it

Now ya'll are talking my language.  I sold my Ranger bass boat a few years ago, stopped tournament fishing, bought a kayak and have never looked back.  We've got some great smallmouth fishing here on the Broad River.  We're having a meet and greet May 30-June 2 in Boiling Springs NC about 50 miles west of Charlotte.  We'd love to have you two to join us.  If you don't have a kayak that's fine you can wade fish down at the Greenway.  Tent camping will be available.  And by the way Southern Yankee, welcome to TU
