Trokar Shakey Head Hook Options

Recommended Posts

That mold uses only trokar hooks because of the hook design and I'm assuming you want it for the flat head because there is another shaky head football mold that you can use the 60 degree mustad 32798 or if you like the EWG style hook you could use the mustad 38109, it is a flat eye 45 degree hook but the EWG bend allows it to fit into a 60 degree mold. Now the other option is to get the round head shaky from the Trokar molds, it will use other hooks and it still has the flat spot on the head.

I forgot about that special bend hook Gammy had and now Mustad has it also, this is interesting. What I would do is contact LPO and ask them if they could try it for you, in fact I may just do that myself so if I find anything out I'll let you know.

Only size he don't have from that mold is the 1/8oz ... so I am going to say those gamikatsu and mustads will work.

What I want to know is how in the #%*€£¥#% is he keeping the eyes so clean when he powder paints them?

When I see stuff like that I get disappointed cause mine never look that good! Dang it!

What I do Apdriver when I paint is when I dip the head in the powder, I heat it up to melt the paint and take a hook and cut off the eye to use to punch through the line tie eye. I use one that fits loosely thru the hook eye.

Thanks Rawjigs. I usually end up with probably 50/50 clean vs closed. I'll try the heated hook trick next time I powder paint before I bake them. That guy must have something he covers his eyes with cause if you look they don't have a speck of paint on them. They sure look clean that way. The fish don't care though!!!

Aluminum foil, that is what you cover the eye with and it is just too time comsuming. The other is teflon tape, it is quicker than foil but then you have to take it off and it isn't cheap. BTW I just got an email from LPO, they checked the mold and told me the mold has to be modified to accept the Mustad special bend but I'm still not so sure as they didn't give me the wire diameters, they just said that they tried it and while the hook had a similar bend the mold would need modification as the wire diameter isn't the same.

That makes sense Smalljaw. I can see where that would be time consuming.

were the shank of the hook fits in the mold i had to file he edge down just a little so that the eyelet would still  go were it needed to take off a very little at a time testing as you go until you fit it like you want it may have a little over pour up the shank but no big deal easy to remove hope this helps

Are you sure it wasn't the 32796 hook? The reson I ask is others have no problem using the 32798 in that mold, you will get a little flashing from what I've been told as the Trokar hooks for that mold are of a slightly heavier diameter.

yes i only use the 32798 hooks i just didnt like the fit the length from the top of the shank to the eyelet of the hook seemed to short to me so i modified mine to my liking.but it may not need it to someone else just my prefrence i quess
