AKFerzy7
Can anyone tell me if its possible to modify this mold http://www.barlowstackle.com/Do-It-Ultra-Minnow-Spinner-Bait-Molds-P279C57.aspx to accept these http://www.barlowstackle.com/WB400-Keeper-Wire-Form-P2534.aspx. If so where should I start?
cadman
So, I assume you want that keeper on a spinnerbait body? Because they make the same head in a jig head format. Anyway, if it was me, I would send it out to get cut, as they will get it centered and equal on both mold halves and all cavities. If you are interested PM me I have a guy that I could recommend that could possibly do this. Now if I was to do this myself, I would make sure that I have enough room on the collar of the SB head to accept the .025 keeper and still have enough room so your lead will pour all around the hook shank and the keeper. You will probably lose the current lead keeper on the SB, as your wire keeper will lie through it. You will then have to decide if you want it on the top or the bottom of the head. Starting this out, lay it all out on your mold. make sure your dimensions are accurate, and then take a dremel and start carving away. I am pretty anal on how my jigs look and I personally would not attempt this as it is in my opinion very very time consuming to do this to get it correct, without it looking like an amateur did it. But if you don't mind some imperfections, than have at it and just take your time and go slow.
gone2long
I'll just add if you choose to modify yourself lightly clamp a hook in the slot and use it as a guide for you dremmel tool use the right bit and take your time you should be fine any minor mistakes can be corrected with jb weld. good luck! patrick reif
I would just wrap the hook shaft with thread, lay down a thin bead of super glue, and place a homemade one in the thread, then wrap it again fore and aft of each end. I'll seal the thread with clear fingernail polish to complete. The bigger advantage is that you don't have to modify the mold at all. I was't thinking and used black thread on a BLN hook, so it's a bit difficult to see, but this is the bait keeper I'll tie on when I think it's needed. AKFerzy7
thanks im actually planning on modifying the mold to pour a vibrating jig. I need to cut a spot for a large ring spinnerbait hook that will be connected to a blade via split ring. the ultra minnow jig mold doesn't come in 1/4 oz the spinnerbait does. I would like to make it look as nice as possible and don't really feel like tying a keeper on each bait. I'll contact you later Cadman, thanks to all who have replied. smalljaw
I just wanted to put this out there for you, the holder that is on the ultra minnow spinnerbait collar is probably the best design I ever used to secure a plastic bait. The reason I hate wire keepers is they tear the bait up when switching them out, it isn't a problem when fish hit what you have on but if you need to change the size or color then you ruin the bait, with the holder it is held on solidly yet it can be pulled off without destroying the bait, just my thoughts on that.
DaBehr
I really like the wire/thread idea!
gone2long
ah yes but that is why we pour our own plastics you can never have enough expensive hobbies.

I think everything is the same but the eye which is much larger to go over the hook, that may work and now you have me thinking.

I'm looking into that, but would prefer a black nickel one in 5/0 and 4/
