Seeking 56
Thinking of using 3/16'' polycarbonate instead of 1/8'' on some deep diving lures. Will it change the action? Thanks s56
BobP
I think definitely yes - the lip will be heavier and will change the balance point of the lure. Whether for good or bad??
woodieb8
it depends upon lure size and lip length.. as your a musky lure builder experiment. . we have built the 9 thumper series with 1/8 and 3/16 lexan. theres no difference as those lips were never beyond 1 inch beyond the pull eye. on smaller lighter lures thes a very possible buoyancy change. the bait will ride further nose down. hope this helps
Seeking 56
Yeah, I suspect there will be more nose dive and will probably make the lure run close to 45 degrees, not what I want but will give it a try anyways. Thanks guys! s56
Vodkaman
static, yes, but I don't think it will make a visible difference once the lure is moving. Dave

Vodkaman
The one thing that I would do, is to add a chamfer to the back of the lip. The sharper the edge of the lip, the more action you will get. This is why wafer thin lips have better action. Dave
woodieb8
thinner lips are fine on smaller specie lures. one of the bigger issues is when we net a 35lb musky they thrash. that can mean a ruined lip, bent hooks etc. . lip angle will be a minimal change, just weight factors. belly ballast has a far reaching approach over lip thickness. .over weight will kill a large straight lure,s action.
