Brent R
Thought i would get something going just to see what would happen. If you could only use one clear coat what would it be. I understand that some would use different clear coats on wood and another on plastic....and we all know that epoxy doesn't work well on sharp edges. So here's what we are going to do 1. What clear would you use on plastic? 2. What clear would you use on wood? 3. What clear would you use on sharp edged baits? And thanks to all for joining in. BobP
In reality, it depends lots of things: what topcoat you have on hand, how adept you are in applying it, what results you've had with that topcoat, how many different topcoats you've used, what specific qualities you value in your topcoats, is your topcoat for hobby or production use. Even something like the ambient temperature or the humidity can be important factors. All factors considered, the topcoat that consistently provides the best results for me is Dick Nite S81 moisture cured urethane. It addresses your 3 scenarios very well. I'm specifying Dick Nite because I've tried a couple of other MCU's and they did not give me results that were as good in terms of clarity, durability, and storage ability. I also use Devcon Two Ton epoxy on wooden baits, especially balsa. It provides a good durable topcoat and beautiful finish in a more "traditional" style. But if I have to pick only one... biggamefish
1. auto clear 2. etex or d2t maybe solarez 3. havent done much with sharp edges but herd dick nite is ok with edges?? someone correct me
MuskyGary
Dick Nite was orginally intended for coating spinnerblades; so it is good on edges. The problem with Dick Nite is the storage issue; as has been stated many times on here. The problem with exposy is it has to be put on a lure turner to keep it from sagging. Just got some Solerize and am going to try that.
bluetickhound
I think I'd stick with ACC for all three if I could only have one....
A-Mac
Haha! None of them! I hate them all! I have an entire forest's worth of wood from ruined epoxy lures! I have enough ruined resin lures to build a house with from DN, solarez, and half a dozen other clears!
ravenlures
I think I will stay with E-Tex for my wood lures. Wayne
