12jgage
Hey guys I have question. I fish some sunken brushpiles and want to buy a new Do-It mold. I have the round head weedless mold, but that jig gets hung up to often. What are your suggestions for a jig mold that will get hung up the least in brush 5-15 foot deep? Thanks in advance for replies.
Big-D
The arky has always performed well in those conditions for me. IMO it is the best head for casting a jig, especially in, and around brushpiles. -D
smallmouthaholic
A bullet style head will work through brush better then a wide style Arky jig sipmly due to the head design. That said, you must finesse the jig through difficult Y brances and resist attempting to rip the jig out of snags by yo-yoing the jig through the difficult areas of the brush. There are friendly brush piles and others that will eat most jigs due to the complexities and type of brush.I'd also recommend a good, fluorocarbon leader. smalljaw
The arky jig is a good one and depending on how you are using it in the brush I would say the snootie jig is another to consider. The reason the weedless ball jigs get hung in brush is the flat eye hook, for brush you need a regular vertical eye.The snootie uses a heavy hook and the wedge head come through cover very well and if the brush you're fishing is prett think then try using a heavy weedguard. cadman
My vote is definitely a Snootie jig my go to bait 95 % of the time followed by the Arkie and finally the Poison Tail. On the Poison Tail if you are not a fan of the EWG hooks, then you can swap it out for a round bend, or teach yourself how to set the hook on an EWG. There is a difference . Mr B
Sorry to Piggy-back on this thread but I have been contimplating the Weedless Brush Jig also. I love my Arkie Jigs for Brush and Trees. However we fish alot of DEEP trees here, like 50-60 foot deep trees using 20 lb Flouro. My Arkie mold only goes up to 1/2oz. I need 1oz and even 1 1/2 oz jigs for this application. The Weedless Brush Jig goes up to 1oz. Has anyone had success with this mold? Does it pour well? Does Powder Paint fill the eye-hole? Thanks Brent
cadman
Brent, I have both of the molds. The hidden eye does not fill. However, I have had problems with this mold releasing the jig after it's poured.. I think I have a bad mold. With that said others have not complained about it, so it should be good. Maybe others will comment.
Mr B
Thanks for your input Cadman. Any other info or opinions would be appreciated. Especially if you are also having "release" problems like Cadman did.
G-Bait
I only pour, paint, tie, and fish the weedless brush jig. I modified the mold to accept wire weed guards and I use an owner deep throat hook. This jig has caught alot of smalljaws. I will be using the bigger mold this winter to pour bigger jigs for silicone skirts for the largemouths.
