DodgeRammin920
Hey, guys. Had a quick question for those of you who inject sticks. I'm using Bear's 6" stick mold and my salt is settling on one side of the stick. Anything I can do to even the distribution? I've tried tilting the bait up but it's not working so well. I'm using Kosher salt that isn't powder fine and if I can help it, I'd like to stick to larger crystals. The crystals aren't super big but there a bit bigger than powder (enough to see in the bait at least). -Blaine
MonteSS
Only fix I can think of is using finer salt. Try Pickling salt from Walmart. Pretty fine but not powdered so baits stay fairly clear. ....Bill
Bassinfool
I have only ever used kosher salt that I've powdered in a spice grinder.
Shane D
Might try popcorn salt. It is small grain but not powder.
mark poulson
Just rig them with the salt side down, and you'll get good action on the bait.
carolinamike
You can try LureWork's suspendosol. Its a thicker formula of plastic made special for suspending salt.
Baitjunkys
What temp are you pouring at, salt suspends better the lower the temp.
DodgeRammin920
Mark, That's exactly what I was thinking. Uneven salt distribution could only improve action. And bait, I know for a fact I'm pouring it too hot for the salt to suspend correctly, it just seems to work a lot better in the mold than the lower temp. Now that I've thought about it, I might actually like the uneven distribution. Thanks for all the tips, guys.
mark poulson
You know, Berkley just came out with a soft bait that has a heavier head, so it glides backwards on the fall. Maybe you could orient your mold so one end of the baits is down, and wind up with the salt heavier on one end, instead of one side. It could be like a built-in nail weight. DodgeRammin920
Mark, that's a killer idea. Will try definitely try tonight.
Bassinfool
That new bait is called the backslide. Supposedly it's killer on spawning bass or those suspended under docks when you fish it weightless.
mark poulson
Mark, that's a killer idea. Will try definitely try tonight. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
cbj11lbs
How would you get the salt to only settle on one end of the bait when injecting? seems nearly impossible to me. I am no expert with salt yet but frequent stirring hasnt let me down yet with even distribution.
mark poulson
I'm just guessing that, if the salt will settle when you inject them horizontally, it will settle when you inject them vertically. I can get the salt to settle in hand poured fat Ika bodies if I get the plastic hot enough, but it's right on the edge of scorching, so I don't do it any more.
