defish
Thanks guys - I'm looking forward to using it. I mostly paint Rapala type stickbaits/jerkbaits and like the idea of a lighter top coat and not having to deal with "The Battle of the etex Fish Eyes" anymore. rhersh - Thanks for the tip about not "double dipping" while it's still wet. When you say you spray Createx clear on your baits before you dip them, is that for all baits or only those that have Sharpie highlights on them so that the Sharpie doesn't run? rhersh
I clear all my baits now. Especially if I dip them. Thanks to all the info. I have received from the guys on here. Edited October 13, 2013 by rhersh
Cougarftd
This was posted on Bass Boat Central since so many of us took a liking to this stuff felt I would share this guys observations. Most of you were probably aware of the hazards but just in case here you go " I hate to bring bad news to others goodideas but make sure you read the MSDS on ANY concrete sealer. I have friends andrelatives that do concrete for a living and will not use sealer because most ofthem are known to cause cancer.I know, what doesn't cause cancer anymore. But they also told me of a person who sealed all his work and did end upgetting cancer. He beat it thru therapy but who wants to go thru that.I knowmost of the time you have to work around something that causes cancer for manyyears to become affected but why take the chance.http://www.menards.com/msds/110101_002.pdf"

nedyarb
I forgot about my spinner experiment, but I found the buzz blade I coated about a month ago, in the laundry room. Oops! It's hard as nails, I hit it with a drill bit and bit barely left a mark!
scrubs
I'd guess that a number of the other coatings we use may be as hazardous as the GST. Quality mask and dipping outside or with strong venting couldn't hurt. bill

Oreo
So whats the general decision.. This stuff rocks to much to worry about cancer or forget about it?
toadfrog
Use it .Everything causes cancer . Except women . They just make you wish you were dead .
mark poulson
Michael Douglas says women cause cancer, too. "Everything in moderation". I don't where or when I first heard that, but it is a truism of life, especially when it comes to using chemical compounds. Read the safety warnings that come with anything you want to use. Use a respirator designed for the solvents in whatever you're using, and you're protected. Some of the really nasty stuff out there is absorbed through any mucous membrane, so it can be absorbed through unprotected eyes, too. Stay away from anything like that. In addition, always paint or coat using in an open area with a fan behind you blowing the fumes out past you, so you don't breathe them in. If I'm doing any work with superglue, I use a dust mask and a fan behind me. I find the glue odors don't get past the mask. I try and apply stinky/odorous top coatings either in my garage with the big door open and a fan in the back blowing out, or out on the driveway in front of the garage, where I don't worry about a fan. And I spray any solvent based paints either outside or in the front part of my garage, and hang them to dry from the underside of the big door, with a fan blowing out. If you have to paint or coat indoors, you need to have very good ventilation to the exterior (not under an open window) and use a respirator. Once you mess up your lungs and sinuses, they stay messed up. And you don't want to expose your family to anything dangerous. If it smells, it's not good for you. nedyarb
I don't even notice the smell, I unscrew the lid dip the bait and reseal it. I'm not holding my nose over the jar and taking big whiffs of it. I'm guessing rubbing my fingers on the lead belly weight is causing more damage than the gst! Just my opinion though. mark poulson
I don't use a mask when I dip in either waterborne urethane, or Solarez, either. There isn't enough solvent smell to bother me, and I'm super sensitive, unfortunately.
21xdc
I'm experimenting with the water base stuff.. Maybe a good idea to test it before using it on a bunch of baits in case it yellows in the sun. Keep us posted!

Maybe a good idea to test it before using it on a bunch of baits in case it yellows in the sun. Keep us posted! Here's what the tech. rep from SealBest said: This sealer is water-based making it environmentally-friendly; however, it has a few provisions that need to be followed for the optimum result. It does not yellow or change the color of the concrete. Drying time varies, due to the amount of direct sunlight available to the area and the air temperature. This product should not be applied if the temperature is expected to fall below 60 degrees through the overnight of the day of application. Temperatures colder than 60 degrees at night and dew that appears this time of year, can cause the product to blush, or turn white upon curing. Blushing does not go away unless the product is removed. Also heavy or dense application may cause blushing as well. Blushing does not mean the area is not sealed and protected, but it is noticeable. Thank you for your interest. Edited October 21, 2013 by mark poulson

21xdc
I have done several batchs of baits... One batch did pretty good. The others were all ruined. It crackles the paint and the clear spider cracks. I tried thin coats, tried thick coats, on the turner and hang dry. It may just need to be cured with some heat as it dries. Most of mine were done in 65*-68*........... I think I'm going to save this product for concrete.
