Cougarftd
I've been dipping 4-5 times so it seems mine is taking longer to completely cure
Nathan
Are you dipping and hanging..or spinning ?...Nathan
Mad Moose Baits
I dip and hang.
Cougarftd
Hang...It sets up pretty quick. When I hang it I just dab the excess with a foam pad and it is good to go
nedyarb
I'm gonna try spraying a few, I have a cheapie spray gun from harbor freight that I could try it with!

nedyarb
I sprayed two lures, it was the first time I've ever sprayed a lure. They look fantastic, however the overspray was bad. And it wasted a lot of finish. I think dipping works just fine so probably will stick to that.

nedyarb
Just out of curiosity why five dips? It seems like after three my lures start looking like epoxy coats!
Cougarftd
It seems to me at 4-5 dips still less than epoxy (my opinion) ...just want to give it as good a coating to protect it as possible. Since this stuff goes on water thin I didn't think it would hurt
nedyarb
Gotcha, I was just curious, thanks
Cougarftd
No worries...we are all still learning with this. How long are you waiting between dips and how long for the total cure time for no smell
nedyarb
I just dipped my first few lures on Saturday, but on Sunday I didn't smell any fumes. I'm still questioning some things. I've had a few bubbles on kos that I dipped. I'm trying to see what happens on raw balsa blanks to seal the wood. And I just dipped two balsa lures, to se how it looks. Definitely still learning, for sure. Thanks, Rob
nedyarb
As far as how long I'm waiting, it's been super random. Like three dips in an hour, and three dips in two days! Ice not seen much difference in the results.
Zbass
After reading the posts here and on another forum I decided to try this one too. I dipped some baits on Sunday Afternoon. I dipped 4 times waiting 15 minutes between dips. After 24 hours they still had a slight smell. Enough to where I would not want to put them in a clam shell yet. They were dry to the touch. They look great. I then took one of the baits and tossed it down the country road a couple times just to see how it would hold up. Hmmmm. It did not fair too well, but this would be extreme abuse I guess. And I do not believe it is fully cured yet. I then took one of my reject baits that has fully cured Etex on it to see the difference. That bait faired MUCH better. I have one more bait that has the GSTon it that I am going to toss down the road Thursday. I also have one that I am going to fish with this weekend. I will post my results. Thanks to Mad Moose for posting this product. Edited August 20, 2013 by Zbass
Mad Moose Baits
OK, so not that the hook hanger blob is horrible, I tried hanging a small wire on the rear hook hanger last night. It really helped. The seal coast ran down the bait to the rear hook hanger and then down the wire. there was a slight blob at the point where the hook hanger and wire met but even then it was small and away from the paint job. I have screwed up a few lures in my time trying to remove hook hanger blobs.... Zbass: Yeah dragging it across dry asphalt is a little extreme, sorta like my 50 hour soak. Oh quick update on that. The softeness created by the soak seemed to fade as it "recured". The bottomline is: I'm using it. It has streamlined my production, holds up to normal fishing and gives a really pretty finish. Now watch, 4 months down the road I will grow and extra head or something.... "too good to be true they said"
mark poulson
I use a hair dryer between dips of my water-borne urethane to speed up the cure time. That would probably help with your finish, too, since heat accelerates chemical reactions.

Mad Moose Baits
Has anyone checked it out with plastic worms. Wayne Wayne, I'm lost... in what way? Let me know and I will be glad to give it a shot.
ravenlures
Well sometimes the plastic melts into the lure in the heat of the day. Wayne
Nathan
Moose, I think Wayne wants to know if this top coat reacts with plastic worms..etc..does it turn them to goo?...Nathan
ravenlures
Maybe I should make myself clearer laying a plastic worm over the lure in the heat of the day, I had lures eat into the top coat sometimes of some lures. Wayne
