Guest Gangel
First off, this isn't a "please stay" post. Don't want comments, so please don't do that. I've been thinking a lot the past couple days, after reading/taking part in the last 2 big discussions. It was brought up a couple times that my opinions/comments don't count because I'm, I dunno what the good word here would be... I guess plain and simple would be because I don't have a "business" in the fishing world. Or any business for that matter. While this is true, it's because I haven't had to. It was always in my mind that I would do it someday, maybe, but right now I have a decent job, actually a job and a couple part time jobs. I want/wanted to set up a business not "to get rich" but to be in the game. It's hard to explain how if feels to be in the game, but I know it's not just me that does things like this, because I know of someone else in another line of work that does something not for the money, but to "be in the game". But I can tell you I've read. And I've bought. Some of you probably have sold to me and not realized it.. I have products that I've bought to sample for myself from tons of people. I'll never use it. But the knowledge I've gotten from all this buying is huge. I once wasted 50 bucks in gas to buy 20 bucks of lures. Now in thinking back on this, and even now as I type.... I do kinda realize I don't have the "make money" attitude it takes to be in business. Which is ok. I can always work at Walmart. Not a big deal. But I still, kind of, want to be in the game. And I might be yet. One of my goals was to go to Icast or other bigger sport fishing shows. But then I read they have dress codes. I don't do dress codes. The bad part of learning all this is that I know where people get stuff from and what they are paying. I proved this to myself this past spring when I kind of pissed a guy off when I told him what he was paying for his parts... and that he could get them cheaper. And he was already pretty cheap. If you go back and look at a lot of my posts, you'll see a different side to what I was getting at. Most of my topics took a way different path than I was intending, but that was ok. I still learned a lot. Bottom line, I'm thinking I'm going to get ready to start to make my move. I've found a few targets and goals, and I think I can hit them. Matter of fact, I think I might even lose some money doing it. I've been prepping to do this for a while. And this is going to be really cool, I think. I don't know, I might be rambling. But the super biggest thing.. I'm going to see about pulling my account on here. Just way to hard to keep my mouth shut when the account is right there. I've missed out on too much and wasted too much time, in my opinion.
Richard Prager
This site isn't about making or building a business. It is about tackle making and sharing info. It is about brainstorming and with that saving much time and $$$$$ by avoiding allot of trial and error. The only reason I'm commenting is because you asked not to....I always go against the grain and do not like being told what to do. If you don't want feed back don't post on a public forum. Still don't understand why you are leaving....and won't beg you to stay but if you are wanting to make tackle and are leaving, then all you are doing is cutting off your nose to spite your face. ..This forum has the most knowledge and the best tackemakers anywhere..............period!
gone2long
Well I will agree with you that your posts are far from the norm and provoked many so not sure you're in the right place anyway as Rich stated the site is not a business how to site, some will gladly offer their experiences but it's more geared to the hobbyist and fisherman who like to come up with the next best thing and some have. If you come off strong headed I just don't think you'll glean much info here as people steer away from that type demeanor. Good luck with whatever it is you're planning to do. Apdriver
I have to agree this is not a " how to business" site. It's a tackle making how to site where we can share info and ideas with like- minded folks. Mostly good people willing to share. That being said, what works for me may not work for the next guy as our production and expectations may be quite different. There seems to be a tolerance and room for all in tackle making and on TU also.
BobP
I make lots of crankbaits. I've never sold one and don't want to. The fact that I have zero commercial interest doesn't inhibit me from participating in TU. Likewise for a majority of the guys on the site. Yeah, sometimes I get dinked for something I say on TU. Stick around any web forum long enough and it will happen to you. It's just the nature of the beast. Most often, stuff like that happens because someone reads meaning into a post that was never intended. When I get that kind of reaction to one of my posts, the onus is on me for not being clear enough or not expressing myself well enough. In the 12 years I've frequented the site, I can't remember seeing a personal insult posted. Differences of opinion, yes. If there were no differences of opinion, I wouldn't bother reading TU ever again.
