Bassinjunkie88
I'm interested in learning this for some of my soft plastics. I have never bought one before and I'm not sure what to look for or if I need an actual kit or not. Can I get one that won't break the bank? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
gone2long
Well I have just gotten into it myself I bought the iwata neo and love it was around $50 but you'll need all the goodies like hose, compressor and things, I also bought the talon TG3 and I'm satisfied so far it came with three different tip/needle sizes and was around $

gone2long
Guys can you use that kind of paint for a tail dip? It's enamel right ? The new water based paint for soft plastics would still need to be dipped in hot plastisol or clear coated as a top coat if that's what your referring to but yes it can be used as a dip, per the web site: CoLure Coat2O™ Clear 5800 The new CoLure Coat2O™ is a safe, water-based coating for painting PVC soft plastic lures. It can be applied with an art brush or airbrush and can also be used as a dip coating. It only has a slight odor, is not flammable and is easily cleaned up with water or rubbing alcohol. The painted lure requires a sealant coat before packaging of clear CoLure Coat™ soft plastic paint, VPI or (recommended) can be dipped into heated soft plastisol (LureWorks™ Clearasol™ is best) for a high-build 3D finish. FLIPPY
Basin junkie,I use them a lot,I like a dual trigger, where you press for air then pull back the thumb trigger for consistency of material..I start guys on a paiche,,for 100.00 bucks it comes with everything,,including different tips and needles,,otherwise for high definition work I have a Iwata and a sata very costly but very high quality,,
Ed_White
I've been using a Badger 175 for years now, it's not the best for really fine detail work, but for the painting I do it works fine. Came with the hose, paint cup, 3 tips/needles, couple of paint bottles with adapter caps, was around $100 then. The CoLure paint works great too, by the way, sprays well and stays put on my saltwater baits. They recommend a clear coat, but even without it the lures have been holding up. These are waiting for eyes, sprayed some black down the back then covered them with some mesh and sprayed some HiLite pearl blue over the black Edited August 30, 2013 by Ed_White

I just want to dip swimbaits and before the last dip, air brush them and then 1 last dip into clear plastic to seal it. This should work, right? Bassinjunkie88
What site are you going to, to purchase the paint and cleaner for the airbrush?
gone2long
Ispikeit carries the paint.
Ed_White
Yes, ispikeit, and the paint is water based, I flush the gun with water then Windex, they say you can use ispropyl alcohol too, but I haven't tried it. A question about dipping baits into clear, I've tried it a few times, I'm always left with a bait that has either a drop hanging from it, or lumpy kinda finish. I'm using ispikeit's soft Clearasol. I do dip the heads in to seal in the eyeballs, but I haven't had much luck doing whole baits. I heat to 330-350, the stuff is thin at that temp, but when I pull the bait from the clear, it doesn't run off very well, it's kind of hardening as it runs off. Probably something I'm doing wrong. gone2long
I personally haven't dipped yet but Frank has a video on youtube demonstrating dipping think he kinda did a little swirl motion and think he dipped into water to set immediately after. Do a youtube search under Franksrooty2 it'll be there.
RayburnGuy
I flush the gun with water then Windex Hey Guys, Don't mean to butt in because I don't do plastics, but I do use an airbrush quite a bit and I would recommend staying away from the common Windex you find on most grocery shelves. Using a glass cleaner without ammonia is fine, but glass cleaners with ammonia in them can eventually eat the chrome off of your airbrush.
