RAWJigs
So I have a customer that has asked for a heavier weed guard for his arky and bullet jigs then I offer. My heaviest diameter is .024" per strand, and I am thinking that is the heaviest weed guard I can buy in 1/8". Does anyone know if they get heavier then that or if that is the heaviest you can get. Thanks!
dlaery
You can get a 5/32" Barlow has them listed a FG-40 Edited August 31, 2013 by dlaery
smalljaw
You have the heaviest at .024", if he needs heavier than that I don't know what to say, the FG-30 in the heavy configuration works great for flipping jigs in heavy cover. RAWJigs
What I thought. He just feels the brush jig, arky (modified to fit a flippin hook) and the bullet (5/0) the weed guards are a bit too close to do the job. Any suggestions on getting the weedguards farther away?
Senkosam
Not sure if this helps, but a few weeks ago I came up with wire guards to replace brush guards on Arkie jigs and add them to tube jig heads. Wire can also be added to ball head jigs with hooks over 1/0 in size. As you can see even small bass have no problem depressing the guard:

I thought the same thing, especially the brush jig with a EWG style hook but it comes through cover really good, maybe try it first and then try to tweak it. Wire, whether a single strand, double strand or complete loop have always worked around rock but were terrible in brush and thick weeds

That's easy to accomplish. I pour my jigs w/ the fiber guard in place.I do not glue in fiber guards . As soon as you remove it from the mold, bend the fiber guard forward, holding it close to the base for 10 seconds while the lead cools.Hold the jig hook w/ the thumb and index finger of your right hand and do the same w/ your left thumb and index finger to the fiber guard. You'll be amazed @ the results Edited September 1, 2013 by smallmouthaholic

Wire, whether a single strand, double strand or complete loop have always worked around rock but were terrible in brush and thick weeds That's because your wire is not of the correct diameter and on a sufficient angle away from the hook. All types of jigs must be finessed through submerged, horizontal brances. I've never found a fiber guard to excel in thick weeds- except green milfoil w/out scum on them
