RayburnGuy
Toadfrog we definitely need to get you healed up. Your the inspiration for a lot of nutty ideas around here. I don't know much about mold making, but if the mold makers around here can build a mold for creepy crawlers and such they should have no problem coming up with a POP mold for your arm. Seriously though I hope your not hurt too bad and that you have a speedy recovery. Ben
littleriver
Toadfrog Are you going for a second opinion? I know they sometimes may be repaired with surgery. A good orthopedic surgeon may be able to help. Though, I am sure the repair is not cheap. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00031 It amazes me that they can fix it but they act as though some of us just don't need the use anymore while others do. I don't know a soul who doesn't use their arms unless it is gone or broke beyond repair. I feel your pain. Lost the use of my left foot for nearly a year. Losing any limb is life changing for sure. I hope your path forward is easy.
scrubs
Ouch! If it's a partial tear maybe that's why they said that. Did they give you any info like "this will take X months to heal"? When I fished trout & salmon on the Lake Michigan shore a lot (20+ hours a week) I had tendonitis so bad I had to switch to two handed casting and brace the handle under my arm. No question of you doing that if it's torn. bill
toadfrog
From what I researched on Web M.D. It looks like this is a partial tear . Nothing is ripped loose from the bone . Time to completely heal is likely never . Time for it to heal enough it won't drive me nuts is 4 to 6 months . 4 to 6 weeks if I don't have to do any manual labor with it . Now we all know that ain't going to happen . Thumb index finger and the one next to the index are ok . the other 2 are pulled all the way to the shoulder . The partial tear is smack in the freak'in middle of my forearm . I've made an over and under hand brace with an extention that imobilizes the two small fingers and supports the wrist so it won't bend . Then I have banded the muscle at the elbow and middle of the bicep . Worked today and my hand didn't swell like road kill in the hot sun ,so I'm thinking I may be on the right track . Sure is uncomfortable to wear . Thank God Almighty for pain pills .
Griffond
Ok my GF is becoming a PA and her best friend is a chiropractor... my advise on something like that; look up online or in phone book and see if you can find a sports physical therapist/Chiropractor in your area that will take your insurance... if need be go see your normal Dr for a referral to that person... if that is not possible make an appt with your normal Dr... and have him refer you to a physical therapist and be prepared to do your exercises and what ever you do under no circumstances get a cortisone shot!!! And if you aren't getting the help you need from the first Dr... go see a different one until you do... ER folks were correct in telling you that there isn't anything they can do because its the ER what they should have said was you'll want to talk with your normal Dr... about physical therapy so you don't make it worse... also switch back and forth between ice pack and heat pad to keep the swelling down and don't over do it on over the counter pain meds... if your taking them switch back and forth between ibuprofen and tylenol until you see your Dr... it's alot of running around and a pain in the ass and you'll have to do stretches and all the stuff but in the end of all the stuff you may not want to do it is worth it and you will heal much faster... Griffond
Oh and the reason I say a sports specialist at the beginning is because they deal with this kinda injury all the time

Griffond
yeah figured it would be something like that... my GF messed up her ankle and she has been doing almost 18 weeks of therapy since she keeps re injuring it they will probably give you exercises to do at home and I HIGHLY recommend doing them as they tell you to... you will heal ALOT faster
