watercoolpcguy
I'm looking for a 4.25 sweet beaver or bps river bug mold......if anyone has one available I prefer an aluminum one....might be easier to make one...any help would be appreciated
gone2long
Good luck on that one that's the holy grail of reproduced molds they come up for sale once in awhile but be prepare to pay. RI is very protective of their intellectual property.
Painter1
Wouldn't it be more fun to design your own Creature Bait or use one of the many that are legitimately available from quality mold makers? I'm just saying
watercoolpcguy
Um....for me it's not so much about creating my own....I want this for personal use. I could make it out of pop and considering it. Besides the sweet beaver.....who will make a custom cnc aluminum mold in whatever i want. DaveMc1
Um....for me it's not so much about creating my own....I want this for personal use. I could make it out of pop and considering it. Besides the sweet beaver.....who will make a custom cnc aluminum mold in whatever i want. problem is the patent laws protect the design even from those copying the protected "item" for personal use as well. Any of the mold companies should be willing to custom cut a mold for you for a price.
gone2long
The key word in your post is "Whatever I want" I don't think any of them will violate copyright infringement but if your providing your own design any of them, Bear's Baits, Basstackle, Do-It Soft Plastics, Shawn Collins, Highrock Molds or Lakeside Molds to name a few. Painter1
My age is showing but when the online computer program "Napster" was all the rage and my teenagers started copying songs for personal use, I took steps to eliminate that practice in our home. IMO, if your copying a song, infringing on a copyright or a patent and not paying, it is stealing and it is not victimless. It has been so much more fun to catch fish on something self-made. Imagine catching a great fish and having to lie or admit to the media that you ripped off someone else to do it. Could tarnish a proud moment. Nothing wrong with creative inspiration though. Maybe you will find an improvement (like a bait that simulates a Bic pen) and become famous:)
watercoolpcguy
It's not about ripping someone off.....or stealing someones' design. If I had a mold copied I'd say I caught the fish on "XYZ" bait. It's a money thing and in the long run baits come and go. I'd like to always be able the have these baits. If RI or another company goes under like many did, then you'll never be able to have a favorite bait. If whatever bait I choose can't be or won't be cut out of aluminum......there is always pop. Aluminum molds are just something I want. And far as Napster goes, that didn't stop anything.
RayburnGuy
Patents and copyrights are not free. They cost many thousands of dollars to acquire and are issued to legally protect those that spent their time and money to develop a product or idea. I would imagine you might feel differently if you had spent several years of your time and 100's of thousands of dollars designing, acquiring patents, marketing and producing the latest and greatest lure to hit the market since the invention of the barbed hook only to have it copied and produced in China for a fraction of the price you were selling it for. If you don't believe patent infringement is a form of theft, and punishable by law, then you need to talk to an attorney. I understand where your coming from about wanting to have a cheap, never ending supply of your favorite lures in the colors you like. The fact remains it is still illegal and anyone you can convince to cut the molds your wanting will be just as guilty as you are. Even if you never sell a single one of the baits you make. Travis
Your best bet would be POP if you are set on having the beaver.
watercoolpcguy
Yea I guess POP will be the way to go. Time to make some molds. Edited September 28, 2013 by watercoolpcguy
ROWINGADUBAY
maybe you could get around the patent bull by attaching a stick bait t0 the tail of the beaver and use it as a sprue that way your pouring two baits at a time. but while they are connected its a totally different bait
watercoolpcguy
That would technically make the design totally different......I got some ideas...
DaveMc1
you should really do some research into the different types of patents. i believe the RI holds a function patent (i could be wrong) on the beaver, so the design of the bait as a whole means nothing. MonteSS
Linmar made a beaver mold that is pretty close to RI. It is open pour plastic and works well. They were cheap too. They sold alot of them. ....Bill
