djhaddix
Wow, this is great. You guys have certainly gotten my wheels turning, so to speak. Unfortunately, the little hampster on the wheel in my brain is fairly lazy, lol. Anyway, this thread has gotten me to thinking...would there be anything wrong with doing a sort of hybrid thru-wire, where the back hook hanger and belly hook hanger were made from a contiguous piece of wire, and then the line tie and the lip could be inserted separately into the bait (drilling a hole for the line tie wire to go into the body of the lure, of course). Would this be a waste of time/enerygy or would it add the desired structural rigidity to the bait that one would desire when dealing with balsa? In the drawing below, which is rather crude and in no way based on any lure design I have, the red lines would indicate the wire, the blue line is the bill, and the green box is the ballast. One can easily see that the wire for the lip is not in any way connected to the other thru-wire. Does this make sense or does anyone else do it this way? Would this just be adding extra work that would show no benefits? Thanks again for taking the time to help me with this. You guys are great, and given the amount of support and participation I have received on this thread, I will definitely be participating more in the forums. Griffond
My two cents on that is with the line tie separate from any hook hangers if your lip breaks or pops out for any reason kiss the lure good bye... the other option you could do is put the back hook hanger separate and have the line tie and front hook hanger as one... somewhere around here Dieter I think has a picture or drawing of what I am talking about... I can't remember the lure he used it on.
Travis
If you are going to go through the trouble of making a two piece lure then only makes sense to make an all inclusive through wire system.
diemai
@Griffond , @ mark poulson , I don't have a shed for my lures , ....unfortunately , .....they're stored just down the basement , ........the 2 or maybe even 3 cubic yards of lure boxes and bags still have their little corner down there ! But nevertheless sometimes the missus throws the idea about me should be moving down there , .......dunno why , actually ? @ Griffond Can't remember sucha lure either , but must have probably done one like this before , ....I remember about lures with screw-on metal lips , that had an hook attachement hole integrated to rear part of the lip behind it's attachement screws , so that the hook would come to sit at proper belly location .
