Spoon Question

Recommended Posts

A dude in AZ wants me to foil some vertical jiggin' spoons for him. He sent one for me to try. I got the foiling done and realized that I now have a problem.....attaching it to my lure turner. This thing is 6 3/4" long, 2" wide and weighs (I'd guess) 3-5 oz. It's flat on the underside and rolled in somewhat of a lure shape on the top. Has a hole drilled in each end. How in the world am I gonna attach this thing for turning. I wanted to use epoxy for the first coat because I'm afraid of how my moisture cure urethane might react to the glue. Any ideas from you engineers and such?

Thanks

Can't speak to the possibility of MCU reacting with glue but if it were me, I'd slap that thing in the MCU and let it hang.  I never had good results using epoxy on spoons because it would quickly chip off at any sharp edge.  If any solvent in the glue has evaporated, you shouldn't have a problem.

I am using fast curing epoxy topcoat to coat my lures , ......has a processing time of about 20 -30 minutes , no need for a Lure rotator , ....just swichtching them over from head to tail in my drying rack for a few times to avoid dripping , ...using simple homemade wire hooks to attach my lures .

Buying that epoxy from a special marine store selling all kinds of  fibre fabrics , resins for lamination , coating , etc. , ...they offer two different epoxy resins each with a little selection of different catalysts to take influence on the curing time after requred demands , ........I buy the fastesd catalyst .

Greetz , diemai :yay:

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Tried a couple ways to turn it and nothing would hold. The clamps would either spin on the bar, or, the other end would turn loose of the spoon. So,I dipped it in the mcu and held my breath. I let the glue dry for 24 hours before doing so and I can't see any signs of a reaction. If I do these lures for the guy...guess this is the route I'll use. Just have to put multiple coats.
