kajay920
Look in the aquarium section too. I found some 97 cent fishing nets like they use to get a fish out of the tank. Nice small honeycomb pattern.
allstate48
If you go to an art store, and get some netting they use for sculpturing, I think it's this shape. If not you can form it into any shape you want. Good luck Doug
Arkie
Look in the aquarium section too. I found some 97 cent fishing nets like they use to get a fish out of the tank. Nice small honeycomb pattern. I use the minnow dipping nets sold at my local bait shop.

mdojet
The netting at JoAnne Fabrics is called "Tool". its kinda stiff so I pull on it a bit from all 4 sides and make it more flexible
HAWGFAN
Dakota Lakes and Bustin Bass each have the mesh pictured
ArdentAngler
What is the difference between using netting material over the lure vs. scale netting hoop? Just curious on the pros and cons between the two.
toadfrog
The hoop can be put in a vise allowing more versatility with your hands . I.e. switching sides of the bait . Then holding the bait up to apply the back color with the second brush .
HAWGFAN
When you put the mesh on the bait, it is typically secured in place. I use alligator clips. This allows you to use multiple coats of paint, multiple colors of paint, and both sides of the bait, since your mesh can't move. It also gives you lots of opportunity to ensure the scale pattern is straight, and the material is pulled tight against the bait. I haven't tried the hoop method, but I've seen it done. Basically the mesh is pulled tight across some type of framework, such as a crochet hoop. I like the speed aspect of it. Just spray one side, heat set, then do the other side. No fooling with clips. I don't think it's a great fit for a lot of applications though. If you're shooting one coat of one color on one side of a bait, it looks really handy. I would hate to know I had to heat set, or change colors without my bait moving. Others may know how to deal with this. I also can't think of a way you could carry the scale pattern from one side to the other, across the top or bottom of the bait, if that's important to you. There is a youtube video by KickinTheirBASSTV that shows this process being used on Stanford cedar lures.
woodieb8
if u spray thru it it works lol.
ArdentAngler
So basically using the traditional scale over lure is my best bet! Sounds like a hassle using the hoop method. How long do you wait before taking the netting off after painting?
Jaw
I use both methods but for basic scale patterns the hoop method is easier and less of a hassle than messing with the clips in my opinion
