HickoryHollow
I have been using a fiberglass resin for my clear coat. It is awesome stuff and cures in about 20 minutes or so. It is USC fiberglass resin. I mix it in small batches and do about 6 lures at a time, brushing it on. I happen to have a pic in my phone that might help. Just to the right of the lure, you can see the can and lable. I hope it is ok to put a pic here for this purpose.... Any thoughts, degatives, comments? mark poulson
If you like that stuff, you should love Solarez. it is also a fiberglass resin, meant for repairs, and cures via UV light. http://www.solarez.com/productsnew/gloss.html I dip my cranks, and they are ready to fish after three minutes in the UV fingernail light. I have brushed it on, too, but I'm lazy and dipping is easier. When my resin gets too low to dip, I'll brush.
HickoryHollow
Mark, I just checked the link you sent. So....if I understand, it stays liquid as long as it isn't put under the light? Wow, you are right, I'm digging the idea!
aydensdad82
Mark can solarez be used as a sealer applied directly to naked wood (after shaping but before painting) or is it only for a final clear coat?
Tracy G
Mark can solarez be used as a sealer applied directly to naked wood (after shaping but before painting) or is it only for a final clear coat? I use it as a sealer on bare wood all of the time. I personally don't like the way it comes out as a clear coat but it works great for me as a sealer. aydensdad82
Any guesses on how long the quart of Solarez would last if I am just doing small bass crankbaits?
nedyarb
Like I posted on another topic, I used to seal balsa baits with solarez. Until I discovered it would crack when dropped on the concrete! I found it didn't really penetrate into the wood very deep. I would guess about 300 lures per pint of solarez. That's just a guess! nedyarb
300 with dipping, probably much more if you brush it on!
