swohio
I am planning on pouring some saugeye/walleye jigs similar to a weed weasel or timber jig. I will probably use the do it grass jig mold. I'm mostly looking for help concerning the weed guard although any recommendations are appreciated. I have read that the sevenstrand wire guards were invented because walleye fishermen had trouble hooking fish with the 'standard' multi strand mono weed guard. Then I read that the 'y' guards are useless. I have read that people make their own metal guard using sevenstrand leader material. Is this better than buying Y guards? Any recommendations from those of you who make and use walleye jigs in weeds and timber?
toadfrog
Because I don't do production I don't have a need for speed . So I use weed eater line . Smash the end flat cut a V for the hook point to lay in . You also don't have to use all the strands in the multi mono gards if they interfere with hook up . Y guards like the weed eater line can be useless if not fitted properly . That is why I make my own . Wire guards have to be fitted and bent as well or you won't get any better results . Personally I'd rather loose or hang a few jigs with no weed guard as to sacrifice a hook up .
