Welcome to the TackleUnderground , hope you'd enjoy yourself in here ! Seems to me , that you should specify about your luremaking intentions a bit to get some more replies to your request . Also browse through the forums for a while , you would surely find some hints , inspiration or input in here , ...also YouTube provides some nice "how-to" videos . greetz , diemai

HickoryHollow
Welcome to the furum! I haven't been here long, or making lures long, but have learned a huge amount in the last year. As said above, please be a little more specific about what you want to make and help will pour in. Wood crank baits? Plastic baits? Spoons? Spinners/buzz baits? (different area of the forums and they are evil) lol Just what do you have in mind? Tim

Tim i was looking more toward painting and making my own wooden lures. eventually i want to move into a little bit of everything but starting out i kind of just want to start making my own crankbaits. those are the main lure i use out here in virginia. Tracy G
Welcome aboard. The only thing better than catching big bass, is catching big bass on your own creation. I have to second what Brent R said, the search feature has a ton of information, but don't hesitate to ask questions.

Welcome to tu.. I think you will find this forum very helpfull and the people on here very helpfull. Like Brent said it is very addictive. One more thing I have found is when I have a question, I always use the search option first and don't have to ask some of the things I was wondering about. Some times I get bored so I just start reading some of the old post and find things I never thought about. Good luck. RayburnGuy
As you start to learn more about building baits you will see that each type of lure has it's own characteristics and "blanket questions" don't apply to all of them. There is a huge difference in crankbaits and gliders. Or top waters and minnow plugs. Some questions such as sealing and top coating can apply to all of them, but the dynamics of the bait are usually quite different. And it helps those who are trying to answer your questions if you can be more specific. Instead of something like "how do you build a crank bait" it's better to ask "how do you apply ballast to a lure" or "how do you form your line ties and hook hangers". It may sound as if we're giving you the run around, but we're really not. Before we can give you specific answers we have to have specific questions. joliepa
I too am new. Its not easy thing to either make or paint a plug. if your checking out the search button. type "top coat". You'll find that there's a dizzying array of posts on that subject. (and perhaps still more if you get interested in one and Type the name of THAT top coat into the search box). While there is a broad array of things people use, There's many more products that don't work (well), and usually some downside to any given choice.... I've gone through by hand like 80 pages of posts and we end up talking about topcoats and airbrushes ALOT. ----- anyways, yes welcome to the hobby. I'm finding that many things are like that. an nearly infinite array of approaches and even more ways to make some bad hard to fix mistake.
