fishnart
Hello, I'm from the hard bait section but have a question for you softbait experts. I have someone who wants me to paint some hard swimbaits for him. The baits he makes have soft plastic or rubber tails. My question is, is there a way to paint the soft plastic or rubber? I would assume that it has to be dyed, that any paint would come off??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a ton
gone2long
You can use the spike it dip and dye but not many colors to choose from they also have 2 different lines of soft plastic lure paints both water based and solvent based. Either one should be sealed either bye dipping in clear plastisol designed for that purpose or they make a clear coat in the paint line but I have no experience with it so I don't know how it holds up. I'm told by a friend in the business that the solvent based is better in his opinion.

School Master
Have you ever tried not dipping it after painting with the lures works paint? How would it last? And do you use a airbrush or just brush it on?
gone2long
You can do either brush or AB the manufacturer recommends to dip when you use the CoLure coat2o water based paint so I would say it doesn't hold up well. The solvent based does not say weather to dip or not.
DaveMc1
The water based will stick to itself after setting, thats why they recommend either dipping or coating with the solvent clear. the solvent based will be fine without doing anything to it. the clear does make the colours pop though. rockslide
whats the shelf life on the solvent clear?
gone2long
Not sure but seems like a lot of folks are using Bloxygen and its seems to help with evaporation/skinning over.
