Roadkill
This is not building but it does concern our tackle. Myself, along with a lot of you sell on EBAY. Looking for pros and cons on this new webstore they are trying to sell us. Anybody tried it? Is it worth the trouble or just another way for ebay to get in our pockets? scrubs
See Curt's post here about a new site. Looks promising. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/27024-where-do-most-of-you-sell/?hl=selling I don't sell lures but I've been gettin rid of some books on ebay. I've found it's better for bargain hunter buying than selling. bill Edited November 19, 2013 by scrubs
Curt - NC
eBay can be profitable, but it's getting tougher and tougher. People are always looking to spend less and eBay is always looking to take more in fees, etc. Some people also sell at www.etsy.com. Not sure how well they make out, but lots of people are doing it, so it must be making them some money. As Bill mentioned above, head on over to www.fishinggear.com. It's a site dedicated solely to handmade fishing tackle, where lure makers can sell their stuff and people looking for custom baits can buy. Hit Jeff up over there and ask him if you can get in on the charter seller plan.
Roadkill
Thanks Scrubs. Checked out the "Fishinggear" site. Small but promising. Although they seem to be charging 10% when you sell something (I think that's a little stiff), It's maybe worth looking into a little closer as an alternative or in addition to others at the same time. Different things in different baskets so to speak.
Roadkill
Thanks Curt. Got a neighbor who sells on "ETSY" handmade jewelry & such. Got a very solid NO when I asked about selling tackle there.. Seems they are more the artsy/craftsy stuff, though like you, I think a few people do try it... Curt - NC
That's odd that they told you no. Here's an example of someone else that sells homemade lures http://www.etsy.com/shop/Pranksterwoodenlures And I know of a couple young kids that market their handmade custom lures on there too http://www.etsy.com/shop/CandTCustomLures So not sure why they told you what they told you
predator lures
I might be wrong but etsy seems like a women's sight. EBay is really expensive, they actually pretty much take a dollar for every item that sells. I wish ebid would get bigger way less cost to sell. Just know buyers on there. Roadkill
Hi Predator. Haven't checked ebid. I will do that. say, if you are the same predator that sells on EBAY, you make some nice looking stuff.
predator lures
thanks roadkill that is my stuff. I do try to find other ways to sel. was thinking of going to local bait shops that do not require bar coding to see if I could put my stuff out. there is just so much competition and way to pricy with ebay. Roadkill
Predator: You might try "fishinggear.com" Fairly new little site and they have a promo thing going right now. Their costs aren't all that good either but best I can tell it's a good deal for at least six months. I have a few things on there but you and I are not competing with each other all that much (LOL) and, like you, I'm always looking for someplace to put my tackle. predator lures
What advantage did you have if any with a store, do you get listing advantages or just save money in listing cost and finale value fees?
predator lures
Road kill did you sell anything on fishing gear website, it looks very nice.
Roadkill
Hey Predator. No have not sold anything yet. Got about 8 things listed but it has been kinda slow for me the past couple weeks even on ebay. But I do have to say I've had at least twice as many people looking at that site. It is a nice little site so I think I'll give them a couple months to get the word out and go from there. They are still fairly new so who knows. If it works then great, if not then oh well I haven't lost anything.
predator lures
Yes I agree nothing to lose, I might try putting a few things on there myself it is a cool looking web site. Sales have been horrible for me to and everyone on ebay are slashing their prices amazing to me how some of the guys on eBay can even cover their cost. It is such a slim profit margin, I wish their were cheap sport shows to sell at. The biggest one in Wisconsin would cost probably 1600 dollars for a booth for 4 days. Curt - NC
eBay has gotten quite expensive for everyone. And sadly, too many people have done the price slashing thing, killing some very good markets, and not just the fishing tackle niche. I've been talking with the owner of Fishing Gear since before the site launched. I believe it will become a great resource for lure makers in the future. Yes.. it will take a bit of time to grow, but should be a great marketplace once it picks up steam. You might also want to consider Tackle Warehouse. They're a monster tackle retailer and I know a couple different people who sell their stuff through them. From what I understand, you don't have to have barcodes. You just have to provide a packaged bait. Check with Bettencourt Baits (Nate). He sells his Rodent baits on their website. He might be able to give you some basic info on how to get your stuff listed on their site. Hope this info helps.
alsworms
Ebay USED to be an awesome way to get your product out there. As mentioned, 2 things killed it...... 1) Ebay makes waaaaaaaay too much now 2) People are looking for deals and deals ONLY now. Doesn't matter the quality of your product As for the Ebay stores, it didn't make that much of a difference. It was a great way to show the customer your other products, but it really didn't bring in much revenue. I had better luck with auctions. This was before buy-it-now was an option. By the way, do they even HAVE auctions anymore? LOL
predator lures
yes but that is almost the worst way to sell unless you come up with something or style that is really hot. people stop bidding after a certain point because they know there will always be 100 other similar items. its so flooded with items that is why people really only buy the deals, it created a buyers market not sellers. there may certain categories were that is not true but it does not seem to me in fishing gear. I remember fishing club meetings back in Wisconsin in the Milwaukee area. Maybe try contacting them? Another option might be the small tackle shops on the lakes. bill
