Thinman13
Has anyone here tried to copy this frog? I would like to know what them legs are made out of?
scrubs
Those are really interesting. Maybe you'll need to order the replacement legs just to get some idea of what material he uses. Remember the Bill Plummer bass frog? Legs on that were of a material that looked like a thin inner tube. I wonder how some type of rubberized fabric would work or even oilcloth? bill Edited November 20, 2013 by scrubs
Thinman13
Don't know of a Bill Plummer bass frog...I will look it up thou and see if I can identify the material, Yea them are interesting cause I don't see how u can make a mold for the legs cause they are so thin. Have u ever used one of his frogs?
scrubs
From the way the Dauber legs look I would bet they are cut from sheet not molded. I've never used the Dauber frog but used the Plummer years ago. Heavy wire weed guard, the hookup ratio was terrible. But they got a lot of strikes. bill
Thinman13
U know, u might be onto something....But what kind of material could it be? He hand paints them frogs and man are they purty! They cost an arm and a leg thou. I wanna know how he gets them too kick like they do and come back to original stature. Hmmm, got the mind juices flowing now. Brandon.
scrubs
Ran across something in a book called Hot Bass Flies. Appears he used to do these for the flyrod. It mentioned the legs being made from silicone. I think the easiest way to go would probably be bunches of sili-legs tied at the knee with thread ala the Messinger frog. bill
gone2long
The pics I could see almost look like he has wire in them, they're sticking out to the sides like that is it me or do you guys see it too?
scrubs
They definitely are sticking out and fairly thick. With the big foot it probably kicks pretty well. how about thin closed cell foam and trying to figure out how to get that foot angle. bill
Thinman13
I didn't see any wire, it must be the kind of foam he uses.
