redxdu
Hey guys, I was just wondering what kind of experiences everyone has had with their new Trokar hooks. I bought 60 of them from Barlows a few months back. I made half of them into brush jigs and half of them into the new Trokar arky jigs. I used them over the summer to make sure they were good before I started selling them to people. At first I was really excited about these hooks just because I thought it would be easy to get other people excited about them. I was bragging to all the guys I fish against that soon I would be selling them jigs that they couldn't even find in a store. Unfortunately, they didn't pass the test. It seems like every time I tie one on it immediately starts going straight. It's especially frustrating because it seems like they gradually work their way straight. It wouldn't be so bad if it only happened once in a while and it happened all at once when it did. But each fish I catch seems to make it bend just a little bit, and before long it looks like that one on the bottom of the pic. It seems strange to me that the most expensive hooks you can buy are also the crappiest. I hope this is just a fluke and I got a bad batch, and I suppose that's why I'm asking how everyone else did with them. The top is a new unused jig, the second is one that has caught a few fish, you can see it's just starting to bend, and the last one is one that I caught a bunch of fish on. I'm using a 7 foot MH fast action rod with 17 lb. fluorocarbon in 8 feet of water or deeper and I'm only catching 1-3 pound fish. Nothing crazy, most hooks should be able to handle this. What do you guys think?
gonfishn
You need to get ahold of Eagle Claw and tell them what's happening. I know they've had some problems in the past in that they were rushing the annealing process, etc.
gone2long
Wow that is drastic especially for the price you pay for them.
cadman
Only problem I had was a couple of the hook eyes were open. I usually buy hooks by the 1000, naturally for the price of Trokars I only bought 50, but I see this often where the hook eye isn't completely closed. I just bought mine from LPO, and they replaced them for me no questions asked. Excellent customer service so far.
smalljaw
I used them before I got the arky mold and I haven't had any problems, the problems most reported were the points folding over very easily but they corrected it. Go to the Trokar website and in the upper right hand side you can just click on the envelope and email them what happened and show them the picture. They are going to need the lot number and a hook or two t check out from the lot, if you don't have any then send them the jig. I never had one fail and I never had the Owner 5304 deep throat jig hook fail but there was a bad batch of those that were breaking and it caused a lot of places to quit using it.
