A Little Video I Put Together

Recommended Posts

Thanks Ben!

I thoroughly enjoy guiding and teaching people how to catch fish.

Probably 50% of the people that book with me are just casual anglers who have never caught a 3 or 4 lb. bass, much less anything over 5 lbs.

It's an awesome feeling to put them on some nice fish.

And yes... I am passing my love of fishing along to my grandson. I hope it sticks with him for the rest of his life

My hat's off to you. I tried the guiding thing for a while. It was more to help out a friend of mine who owned a motel/tackle shop when he was overbooked. It definitely wasn't done as a source of income as I made much better money in my contracting business. I probably put too much pressure on myself trying to make sure my clients had a good trip. Another thing is that it didn't fit my style of fishing. At the time Rayburn was on fire with lots of big fish and these are the ones I liked to fish for. If I had an idea there were big fish using a certain area I might sit on it all day waiting on them to move up and start feeding. Not many people are willing to wait all day for one big bite.

I had a big fish open the split rings on a Rattle Trap early one spring. I got the bait back, but she carried the hooks with her. It was a new bait and I had upgraded the hooks and split rings the nite before. I went back to the bank and stocked up on snacks and drinks and went back to that spot. Stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights fishing the same 50 yard stretch without leaving. Never did get her to bite again.   If the folks I was contracting for hadn't called me to come back to work I might still be there.

Hey.......I recognize the avatar pic!  LOL

VERY cool stuff, Curt.  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! And yes.. that's where my avatar pic came from. It was actually taken by one of my clients on a trip back in June. I caught the fish and he pulled out his Samsung Galaxy S4 and snapped that pic. He had some photography background, so he did a great job with the pic considering it was taken using a phone.

That was one of those days where we were on fish from the start of the trip to the very end. In fact, the picture in the video of a lady in a peach-colored shirt was taken on that day. That was the wife of the man who took my picture.

She was a real trooper. She's 74 years old and had a very major stroke a while back, leaving her completely immobile and unable to talk. With sheer determination and hard work she bounced back to be able to walk again and speak fairly intelligibly again, and she can still fish.

She can't cast, so I did all the casting for her and she would move the bait around on the bottom as I worked the trolling motor. She ended up catching that big bass (around 4 1/4 - 4 1/2 lbs.) about half way through the day. I swore that she was never gonna land it. It fought her all the way to the boat, and because she wasn't able to stand up quickly to fight it, she stayed sitting down and the fish was all up under the boat a couple of different times. Needless to say, she was some tired out when I finally got the net under the fish. But it put a huge smile on her face for sure :D
