A-Mac
Spaz Stix SZX10000 Ultimate Mirror Chrome Airbrush Paint R C Lexan Body | eBay Has anybody tried this? The video makes this stuff look awesome.
RayburnGuy
I've seen it before A-Mac, but haven't tried it. You might be the one that has to bite the bullet on this one. Ben
gone2long
I wondered about the clear they spoke about that said "nitro proof" on their website?
nedyarb
I just bought some. We shall see how it works!
Jmarsh
I haven't used it myself but I have read about it on another forum and heard that you have to have a perfectly smooth surface cause any imperfections will show through the finish. Also you might think about spaz stix's clear coat made purely for their chrome line cause I have also heard that the chrome dulls slightly with etex and other epoxy finishes directly on top. Thinman13
That paint looks awesome! Let us know how it turns out.
nedyarb
I'm thinking I will spray the spaz stick on and then dip it into gst and let it sit a few days. I've never like epoxy over foil or chrome!
saltshaker
I haven't used this paint, but, I've bought "stuff" from this ebayer and I can tell ya....you won't find anybody better.
RayburnGuy
Was the guy in the video spraying the backer paint on after he'd sprayed the Mirror Chrome? I know this would work on something clear like plexiglass, or Lexan, but can't see how that would work on something like a crank. wchilton
I wondered about the clear they spoke about that said "nitro proof" on their website? I've seen the term "nitro proof" before for hobby paints. It's just referring to it's resistance to fuel used for remote control vehicles. saltshaker
Yeah Ben...it looked like he sprayed it on afterwards. Looked like a piece of plastic of some sort or maybe Lexan he was spraying. Looks really cool, anyway.
gone2long
Yeah the way I interpreted it you would spray the backer on first then the mirror coat think by itself it may not look like the video but I think some pretty cool effects could be had top coated with say transparent or candied paints look forward to some of the reports on this one. 21xdc
I used to paint clear car bodies and you have to work backwards. The outside of the body stays clear. Similar to making a gel coat boat in the mold. I don't see how this will work as we cant paint the inside of the baits. Unless the clear wont dull it like other chrome paints... I'll wait for the test results posted here..
goolies
Very good metallic paints typically don't react well with clear coats. I like Krylon premium metallic paints http://www.krylon.com/products/premium-metallic/. The problem is that I have yet to find a clear coat that does not dull the finish. I would be interested to find out if the Spaz Stix clear can be sprayed over their mirror chrome without dulling the finish.
mark poulson
Target Coatings' Super Clear SC 9000 will not dull metalic finishes.
Musky Lip
I have used this in the past. It looks great until you put a clear coat on. Once you add a clear coat it just looks like any other silver paint I have used.
A-Mac
I picked up some krylon chrome premium metallic spray paint from hobby lobby. It was a total impulse buy, but I want to give it a whorl. I was initially attracted to the mirror-like spray paint, but this was intended to be sprayed on the back of clear glass (the reflective properties show through to the other side). SlowFISH
I have used this in the past. It looks great until you put a clear coat on. Once you add a clear coat it just looks like any other silver paint I have used. +1 It's also fairly delicate.... meaning don't touch or mess with it until it's clear coated. I tried to mask off and area - spray - then remove tape before clearing and it flaked off near the tape. I'm sure like anything else with enough work you can get it to work - but nothing is going to beat real metal (foils) from an aesthetic standpoint IMHO. J. A-Mac
I would stick with foils, but I do not get the nice scale finish on my resin lures like I did with balsa. There are so many chrome finish lures out there that I figure there has to be something we can use.
RayburnGuy
Have you tried Dupli-Color Chrome A-Mac? I've done a couple baits with it and while it's not a true mirror finish it's much better than any silver paint I've tried. I think it works better on a black background which is something I didn't do on the Citrus Shad at the link below. I think it looks better the more coats you put on as well. bassguy
I can see the potential if you are building plastic baits. Before assembling, paint the insides and glue the pieces together, mirror finish, but no bb's for rattles inside.... Jerry
bobv
I've use the Spaz Stix, it won't give you a foil type mirror finish. It is a very bright silver but I would not call it a mirror finish.

I am not looking necessarily for a mirror finish, but something that is still reflective.
A-Mac
The Krylon premium chrome that I just used looks nice. The best way I can compare its reflectiviness is this: It's shinier than the coated side of a foil sheet, but not as shiny as the non-coated side. The color is more aluminum than chrome, but the bait I sprayed does actually look like a chunk of metal (not like something painted silver). @Rayburnguy, I haven't tried the duplicolor yet. The bait you show does look nice. Is that 1 coat? One nice thing about the Krylon is that 1 liberally applied coat had complete coverage. I sprayed some of the Krylon into a plastic cup and poured the paint into a small jar to try use in my airbrush, but I haven't shot it through like this yet. RayburnGuy
Yep, that's one coat A-Mac. The Duplicolor shoots out a pretty heavy mist when you press the nozzle. You definitely want to have your hand moving when you start to spray. Could be a different type of spray nozzle these days. The can I have has been around for a number of years. Have not tried shooting it through an airbrush. I'll wait for you to try that one.
