bobv
But is it enough of a chrome look in order get the flash of foil? I am not looking necessarily for a mirror finish, but something that is still reflective. Not really, britebak tape is the way to go. RayburnGuy
If you want something that is fairly reflective then foil tape is pretty effective. I did some experimenting with the foil and found I could polish it to an even brighter sheen with a polishing pad, some rouge and a Dremel tool. The way I do this is to lay out the cut lines on the paper backing of the tape. After that is done I use painters tape placed around the edges of the foil tape (shiny side up) to hold it down on my workbench. Then the polishing starts. Once it's polished to my liking the painters tape is removed and the tape is cut along the layout lines. I think you'll be surprised just how shiny, and reflective, the aluminum tape will get. I've been able to polish it to a point where you can easily see your reflection in it. Ben

gone2long
That's how the Mirror paint system is to work it should be backed by a black (their backer) for it to perform as shown in the video, I don't suspect you'll achieve what's in that video but it will perform better with the backer that is certain, real mirrors have a backer as well. I wonder if there is a service that could electro plate lure blanks at a reasonable price?
nedyarb
I tried painting three spoons with it yesterday. They all looked decent, nothing like chrome though. I dipped them in gst and that took all the silver off! I will keep trying though
gone2long
Interesting how a clear coat will take away the reflective effect.
fatfingers
I have never seen a silver or chrome paint that did not flatten under epoxy.
