HickoryHollow Posted December 8, 2013 Report Share Posted December 8, 2013 As an X-taxidermist, I can tell you this much. Real fur of ANY kind is out of the question. The hide of animals is preserved by drying. The roots of the fur is held into the dry hide. If it ever gets wet, the fur "slips". That is what they call it if it falls out. He makes some really great looking rat type baits and I'm pretty sure he used fur on them. I have one of his dying perch swimbaits and I know for certain he used fur on it. As of yet I have not found a way to use real hide that didn't creat an undesireable effect whether it was hair loss or the treatment prevented it from adhearing to the lure master when an adhesive is applied . My standard colors are White ( with red eyes and tail ) or Dark Brown ( with Black eyes and tail) Ben...I'm more than old enough to remember who "Alf" is.. gadawgs Posted December 14, 2013 Report Share Posted December 14, 2013 I've bought rabbit fur and then used 5 minute epoxy to apply it. Let it set up a couple of minutes first. Then clamp it on and let it dry. I had to precut the fur and then apply it in sections. Nathan's method is much cleaner looking than what I've done.
