The Dutchman
I want a more flexible weed guard also smaller diameter strands, for swim jigs. Which one do I order. They all look like they are for flipping jigs. Even when I cut them in half the strands are too stiff. Any help please.
cadman
I believe the .018 diameter is the thinnest which makes up the FG-30 (30 strand weedguard bundle. I myself do not like stiff weedgurads, so I take my 30 strand weedguard and cut it in half and put in 15 strands. If that is still too heavy for you glue in 1/2 of that which you would have 7 or 8 strands of weedguard.
Jig Man
I see no need for weedguard in swim jigs so I leave them out unless I am swimming them in and around brush. Then I like the 90# steel leader like I put on my tube jig heads. Edited December 13, 2013 by Jig Man
caster
Dutchman, We build a lot of types of swim jigs. All of our jigs are poured with a pin so we glue these in after we paint. The best most flexible size is in the 120di in the 018 thickness. On some jigs you will need to go up to the 024 thickness. Try both of these and if the .018 hangs to much go to the .024. Hope this will help you. Also make sure you use a epoxy glue so the weed guard does not wick and get stiff.. Caster
gone2long
You can use loc-tite gel it does not wick like original loc-tite.
CarverGLX
I've used these methods before: Instead of using FG 30 gaurds go to FG-12. To make it fit in neatly use a size 5 cable connector in the weedguard slot. This takes up the extra room. Just insert the weedguard into the connector and mold. For something you wont have to order.... go to the local hardware store and buy some rivets (1/8"). Remove the center nail where you just have the collar left. Put this in a vice and file away the top. This will leave you with a tube to put the FG12 fibers into. You can also use this system to hold an appropriately sized nail in place to use as a base pin if you prefer to glue your guards in. Other than this I highly suggest wire guards. Check out my wire guard tutorial. I should have some pictures attached by the end of the week so it will make more sense. For what you are wanting I would say uncoated #90 or coated #60. There are many ways to do what you want... It comes down to what is easiest for you Good Luck
