As I understand the need for something in particular, why a football jig for heavy weeds ? They are probably the tuffest to get through the thick weeds. You could get away with say a 1oz brush jig or a 1oz bullet jig. The only thing that may change is the fall rate.

mark poulson
I'm guessing that you need a heavier head with the football shape to get it down through the weeds.
RayburnGuy
Back when we had heavy hydrilla mats on Rayburn 1 1/4 oz. jigs were quite common. I've fished them a bunch in the summer when the hydrilla was really thick. There were times when even the 1 1/4 oz. jig didn't want to go down through the mat and we weren't using football jigs either. Ben

RayburnGuy
That's why the guys on the CA Delta came up with Tungsten punch weights and punch skirts. At the time this was taking place there were no tungsten punch weights and punch skirts Mark. Nothing but lead back then and it really hasn't been that long ago.
