aydensdad82
Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to use propionate? I have not order any yet but I am the type that wants to know as much as possible prior to ordering. For example why do you make a thick batch and a thin batch? The buyer on ebay I found is in the link below. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Propionate-Wood-Sealer-for-Handmade-Lures-Crankbaits-Wobblers-Balsa-Other-Woods-/350646855453?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item51a42e671d I realize he will send instructions but again I want to find out as much as possible before placing order. Thanks guys
spoonpluggergino
Go to this website and go to How to Guide, there is a section on How to seal wooden baits using propionate http://www.tacklemaking.com/ Gino

Thanks guys I have ordered from him. Great guy.He also sends them out divided up where its easy to get a weight needed. I just recently got some and I'm no expert with it but the thick jar is used to refill the thin jar as it takes some time to dissolve the pellets (3-5 days). A slightly thick (honey) jar can be used as well after the initial sealing coats are applied. I ended up making 3 jars. A very thin(sealer), thin(painting), and thick (adding to others). diemai
@ aydensdad82 I'm quite new to propionate as well , started out early this year , wrote down my experiences in here : http://www.lureandmore.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=9505 Slighly changed the process by now , ....won't dip with hardware glued in nowadays , .......glueing in hardware after approx. 8 dips, though some extra time goes for cleaning cured prop from lipslots , bellyslots and pilot holes again . Cheers , 61diemai
aydensdad82
Nice read Diemai that will help a lot. One thing I am still confused over is after mixing the two jars and dipping some blanks how long is the remaining propionate good for assuming it is sealed well in a mason jar? Cougarftd
It will last a long time but you will need to add acetone from time to time. Even though it is sealed it stills seems to evaporate over time...at least that is what I have found.
Nathan
Even if all the Acetone evaporates and your prop. Hardens just add more Acetone..It never goes bad...Nathan
aydensdad82
This stuff sounds awesome. I have been using Bob Smith to seal and top coat
diemai
@ aydensdad82 Nope , ...it does not spoil , .....I'd even sometimes scrape the cured remainders off my glass jars and throw them back into the prop mix , ...they'd dissolve again in a breeze , .......and , ...as said above , ....when the laquer becomes too thick , ....just add some more acetone and stir up or shake , let airbubbles pop away before dipping . Good luck , diemai
