Felix77
Curious. When skirting your jigs do you use the same amount of skirt no matter what the size? Or do you vary it based on the size. Example 1/4 = 44 strands 3/8 = 55 strands Etc.
Basstriker
I tend to use three pads regardless of the weight of the jig. It may vary somewhat where a finesse jig verses say brush or punch rig is concerned. I have seen 1/8 ounce micro jigs, now that weight jig I would be using less on. toadfrog
I apply strictly for presentation purposes .The no. of strands on a skirt are there only to give you an idea of the bulk you can expect when purchasing them .
mark poulson
I fish clearer lakes, so I only use two tabs. I don't want the bulk of three tabs.
smalljaw
I do it based on size and type of jig. In fact it is close to you with 42 to 44 strands for a 1/4oz, 50 to 54 for a 3/8oz and 54 to 60 for 1/2oz and above. The exception to this is the Eakins style of finesse jig I make, they go from 1/8oz up to 7/16oz and for clear water I'll tie 20 to 30 strands on all sizes, for stained water I'll go 40 to 44 strands on the 5/16oz and up but that is the only jig I do that with. So, for the most part, I do it the same as you.
