gone2long
I like the setup I'm currently using (see signature below) but I'm wondering if I should have a siphon fed brush. My thinking is although I only make and create baits for myself and some friends I would like to be able to just plop a bottle on my brush for those higher volume type situations, I'm no artist but I like the idea of blowing down basecoat and the ability to blow down large coverage areas. What's everybody's take do you use one and if so do you mind sharing you view on it's use. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. RayburnGuy
Just my personal opinion, but I don't see the need for a special brush just for base coating if your only building a few lures at a time. If you still want to be able to blow through the base coating process just set up a manifold so that you can have at least two brushes running off of it and use a larger nozzle/needle setup in that brush and keep the other one for your regular painting. Disregard this if your trying to justify buying a new airbrush to the lady in the house. Ben
gone2long
HaHa been there huh I'm kinda leaning to being able to do larger projects not necessarily tackle making but trying to find a need in tackle making. My Talon has a big cup so I can spray quite a bit for the tackle but fall a little short on larger projects and keeping a wet edge.
RayburnGuy
You might want to consider a HVLP gun then. It can still pull double duty for baits and it's probably a better choice for spraying multiple baits with flake or certain top coats if you ever up your production. It really depends on just how much is enough. I've read comments from a couple guys who bought their HVLP guns from Harbor Freight and were well satisfied with them. They're probably less expensive than a quality airbrush and should hold plenty of paint to cover anything short of a car or house. I may be a bit prejudiced toward siphon feed airbrushes as they seemed to be more of a pain to clean. Especially when changing colors. But that's just me. Hopefully some other folks will sign in and give you more opinions. good luck, Ben
Richard Prager
A siphone feed is not going to get the job faster than a gravity feed and more to clean. I can fill the cup 1/4 the way with Super Hide White and do 15-20 baits in a few minutes. It takes longer to tape the bills than it does to basecoat the blanks JMO
