muskiestalker51
I have used Devon2 before for foiling where it helped to fill in the edges of the foil. I just started with the GST an love the dipping an finish I'm getting. Has anyone used the FAR for foiling how did the edge of the foil come out. I'm going to try this week on the foiling any ideas on how to do the finish edges
saltshaker
I'm not familiar with GST at all, but, I can tell you that a single "dip" in KBS (which is the urethane I use) will not compare to a coat of Etex (one of the thinner epoxies) as far as hiding the edges of foil. Multiple "dips" might get you there, however. Good luck.
xtx
Never used it either. But if it is thin...i would etex or devcon , like saltshaker suggested. I've tried other clear coats that you dipped and hated them for what you are trying to accomplish. Wound up being a PIA !
barr5150
I tried it but gst is too thin to get the edge blended in the way devcon would. Also, I used the adhesive backed foil from wal mart and gst ate the glue and wrinkled the foil. Not sure what type of glue your using but you might want to try a test piece fitst to make sure it will work.
muskiestalker51
Thanks exactly the road I was headed down lol. Foiled baits get Devon2 then.
FrogAddict
So just to clarify, foil, then epoxy, then paint, then GST is ok for the topcoat or do you suppose even that would wrinkle the foil?
Nathan
I doubt the GST would get through the epoxy to reach the foil...Nathan
FrogAddict
Thanks Nathan, didn't think so but there's nothing like experience. I just foiled my first bait and will epoxy this weekend.
saltshaker
Your foil will be safe with epoxy.
barr5150
I haven't tried gst over epoxy but I'm sure it would be fine. As always though I recommend trying it on something you don't care about first.
saltshaker
I've used several urethanes, etc. as a final clear and, over epoxy, never had any issues. I don't think epoxy reacts with anything.
