ROWINGADUBAY
I was wondering if someone could post a picture this keel wieghted buzz bait head from the top or bottom. Every catalog I look in has a picture from the side and I am wondering what the profile is as a fish would see it from underneath. I looked at all 16 pages of our gallery and did not see one from the top or bottom. I am mostly interested in the 3/8 or 1/2 oz sizes although I think any size would give me a good idea of the profile. Thank You in advance
cadman
I will tell you a couple of things I do not like about this mold if you are going to be the one that pours them. #1. You can only use the listed size hook for each cavity. Reason being, Is the hook eye has a tendency to be too big for the body, and you get voids in your pours. Unfortunately I like the design of the head, but it needs to either be bigger at the top or wider. This is a pourer's nightmare, not to say it can't be done. I will also tell you that you get much better pours, if you use a small ladle and hand pour it into the cavity. I seem to get better pours and more complete pours. #2 Make sure the lead and the mold are extremely hot and I mean hot to the point of where you cannot touch the mold. #3 If you can deal with a hook that is one size smaller, then that is half the battle. #4 The 1/8 and the 1/4 oz cavities are the worst. However since you are not going to pour that then it won't be an issue. In all honesty, this is one of the molds I really hate to pour . It is a P.I.T.A. There are many re-pours to this mold. Maybe since I sell jigs I'm too picky, but voids in a head look horrible and when you paint it, it accentuates it and makes it look worse. Finally, I think if I switched to a spinnerbait hook that had a smaller hook eye, that may solve some of the problems. However I am using a Mustad #32608 hook. If you need more info let me know.....I will upload pics in a couple of minutes Edited December 31, 2013 by cadman
cadman
One other thing about the mold and that is the top edges do not come out crisp and clean, they seem jagged. Maybe that is because it is a sand cast mold and it seems like it would be pretty hard to get this feature at the edges. pic #1 Left to right Side profile pic #2 Bottom View pic #3 Top View pic #4 View looking head on You also have a PM from me. ROWINGADUBAY
Thank you very much for your info. The reason I am intersted in this mold is it looks alot like a joe bucher slopmaster spinnerbait head wich they dont make anymore. I guess the shape of the slopmaster head was designed to split through the weeds and keep them off the hook. It seemed to work very well as I could fish it right in the weeds instead of over the top of them.
School Master
This is a spinnerbait I make with the mold. My boy CAD is corret, it can be a little bit of a pain to pour. Toad, that's just halarious, I laughed at my desk when I read that. I stick mine in toaster oven for a minute to make sure it's good and warm. I don't sell these, I just make them for myself so I guess it doesn't bother me when I get a couple voids. Bad things aside this mold makes a SICK spinnerbait. You can burn it and the keel head really keeps it tracking straight. I catch a lot of fish on these.

I never thought about using it as a spinnerbait, but I can't see why not. BTW nice looking spinnerbait.
School Master
Thanks CAD, The wire get's in the way a little bit, but obviously it's not a major problem. To be honest I've never poured a buzzbait with this thing. I bought it to make spinnerbaits even if I had to modify it. I was happy to see I didn't have to. I throw it alot for smallmouth on big water and the head is perfect for that. I only pour the 3/8 and 1/2 ounce. I make the 1/2oz. compact and it makes a spinnerbait that is equal to anything you can buy on the shelf. Try one out you will like the way it looks.
