Party Crasher
Is there a trick to get Buzz bait blades to REALLY squeak? I have roughed up the blade flange where it contacts the rivet and I have roughd up the rivet face. I get some squeek, but I think I could get more. I have an old Strike King that squeeks like a dry hinge. I don't see anything special or different about it's construction, but it sure squeeks! Thanks. basskat
Drill the holes in the blade larger. (the ones the buzzbait form runs through) This will give you more squeak. I'm sure you've heard of holding them out the window as you drive, this has the same results and saves your knuckles.
Richoc
Tye it to your antenna on the truck or car and drive for a hundred miles. Will break it in good.
Markell
Party Crasher, I would think that roughing up the contact between the rivet and the blade would keep the bait from squeeking. I'm not the expert here but I would make sure the rivet is squeezed down so it does not turn. Then pin the blade against the rivet. Not enough to make it hard to spin but just enough to ensure a good contact. You want to create friction. Hope this helps. Markell
Celticav
Yeppers, Markell is correct...if you really want to give it a squel sand it up real good with an emory board, get the wire shaft roughed up good with sand paper too. Or try copper rivets instead of aluminum...harder to find but they make for alot of noise, sand very lightly then stand the rivet up in a saucer with the bigger part down in a little muratic acid for a few and watch it get corroded, that thing will howl like mad. I have heard about holding the bait out the window or zip tying to the vehicle antenna to increase the noise and performance, but this just wears the bait out very quickly in my opinion. Think contacting metal to increase squeak, anywhere the blade touches can be twiddled and tweaked for sound, JIM
Party Crasher
Great tips. Thank you everyone. I don't know if tying one to the car antenna works or not, but I may do it just to see the look I get from my wife. Should get a lot of head shaking an eye-rolling! So, smooth squeeks better than rough. That makes sense now that I think about it. I read the "roughing it up" tip somewhere else on the net. How about between the two blades in a counter-rotating two blade buzzer. I've been putting a 5/32 hollow metal bead between. Has anyone tried squishing the bead slightly to get more surface on the blade flanges. Or, am I splitting hairs now? Thanks again.
Party Crasher
Celticav, where would I start looking for copper rivets? Hardware stores or one of the tackle making suppliers? I don't thing that I ever saw them. Thanks.
Celticav
I did a search for you Party Crasher and if your still in WI check into or call National Rivet & Mfg. Co. at 920-324-5511 or their website is http://www.natriv.com/rivets.html if you need it, be careful with that muratic acid if your gonna corrode those rivets. Party Crasher
Thank you Celticav. I'll call them.
jerkbait
A local baitshop makes the best sqweeking baits I have ever used. He uses .031 wire and pins the rivets on a 1/4 oz head. The small wire will cut the blade out quicker but no need to make hole bigger. Copper rivets and steel work great as well. In a pinch a 1/8 in pop rivet sleeve withb the nail removed will do and they come in all flavors. Delta offset blades will sometimes make more noise because they rotate in a larger arc around the wire.
BassReeper
I'll take some pliers and grimp the rivet so it doesn't spin. Then I hold my buzzbait out the window of my truck for about 10 miles and your ready to go.
