benson32
I'm new to the site but have been making lures for a few years. I want to try and make tungsten ice jigs. I was thinking of soldering a hook to a lure body, with the solder adding weight to the jig. My question is, can I do the same thing using tungsten as opposed to traditional solder? I can get my hands on some tungsten wire to use as the solder. Or does anyone have any suggestions on something else I could try? I like having the high density of tungsten compared to lead for ice jigs. Thanks in advance!
stretcher66
my concern would be the heat source to melt it... Properties of the refractory metals Name Niobium Molybdenum Tantalum Tungsten Rhenium 2750 K (2477 °C) 2896 K (2623 °C) 3290 K (3017 °C) 3695 K (3422 °C) 3459 K (3186 °C) these are the melting points for these metals Edited January 9, 2014 by stretcher66
benson32
I also found that after I posted my original question. For now I might just stick with the ice jig solder from Netcraft.
