vishezfish
Just wondering if you guys know long u would put your mold in the microwave to warm it up before pouring your plastic...?? Or does it depend on your thickness, or length.. I don't want the mold to crack..... Thanks!

vishezfish
It is a plaster mold.... I thought about that too, using a bunch of plastic to heat it up, then use the good stuff.... Just was wondering if there was a better way to save time!!
siebler_custom_baits
it will only take a few times to get it warm. i would just do this. no way to damage mold this way.
Tm Customs
I found microwaving RTV scillicone molds for 45 seconds really helps, especially when pouring veins and 2 tone colors... If you dont like this method you can just pour them 4-5 times and they will be hot but this works better for me. Tm
BigZ
RTV molds will lose a lot of their lifespan if you heat them a lot. The finish will dull and your mold will be shot a lot sooner if you heat them. The reason for this is that the silicon oil leeches out of the RTV. It might give you a better finish right away, but your molds will hold up better if you just pour a bait or 2 of trash plastic first before you get down to the pouring. Some guys recommend placing the mold in the oven at 350 for less than 10 minutes every once in a while to release the oils and make the molding surface slicker.
