swimjig50
What is the best thing to use on crankbait bills, to make them look clear?
BobP
The best I've found is dipping the lip in Dick Nite S81 moisture cured urethane - if it's plastic. It won't adhere to polycarbonate (Lexan) bills, and it's not cheap - but you did say "best". Some say you can clarify a bill by dipping it in acetone, which begins to dissolve the plastic. I've never tried that. Dipping the lip in Solarez UV cured polyester also might work but it is a rather thick topcoat. In my experience, whatever product you choose, you should dip rather than brush it on to avoid brush marks.
kajay920
I try to leave the protective coating until just before I add the clear coat. Before I glue them in I use a fine point pencil to mark where the paper needs cut. One way I've seen to smooth the edges is 4000 grit sandpaper in a water bath. Takes forever and would be incredibly difficult on my hands trying to hold such a small piece of Lucite.
RayburnGuy
If your repairing scratches the above suggestions work. If your talking about a lip that has yellowed over time I don't know of anything that will make it clear again. Ben
Cougarftd
Some will dip quickly into acetone...I will say if you do this at a humid time it could come out foggy. Just a quick dip and hang lip down. It will dry very fast
mark poulson
Replacing the protective coating with blue painters tape will give you better protection, and you can mark it more easily with a pencil or pen for centerline and line tie locations. swimjig50
Thanks for all the help. Painted a few knock offs and the bills are cloudy. Just wanted to make them look decent. Tried D2T and it bubbled and looks like crap. I will try some moisture cure instead. Thanks again. All your help is appreciated, very much.
