danthebassman
I am getting ready to order some tools and tabs and have a question about trying to reproduce a skirt that I like. I think I have found the right colored tabs online to make the jig. My question is...how do I know how many tabs or strands of each color to use? According to the website, each tab has 22 strands. Any tips and info would be greatly appreciated.
Saugerman
If you have 22 strands on each tab, 2 tabs will be fine. But you can put more on if it doesn't look full enough to suit you. It really is about personal preference. 2 will get you started ,and you can go from there. Hope this helps.
cadman
Yes, it is a personal choice. All my jigs have 55 strands (2-1/2) tabs. The more strands the fuller it looks and the slower it will fall especially on smaller jigs like 1/4 oz.
danthebassman
Thank you for the info. I think I will just start with one tab of each color and maybe add a half tab of one or the other. I will primarily be tying 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs. cadman
Thank you for the info. Just my opinion, but with those jig sizes you should be fine. I just tied up quite a few 3/4 and 1 oz jigs, and a 55 strand skirt looks skimpy, but then again a 1 oz jig in my book is really big and it does have a bigger collar to tie around. BTW, really nice looking jig. Edited February 11, 2014 by cadman
