wootonc
I was looking for some help on glueing eyes on spinnerbaits I powder paint all of my jigs and spinnerbaits. I tried using super glue and It eats some of the eye away and leaves a white film on the eye and the head of the spinnerbait. Any info will be greatly apperciated. dlaery
I use 2 part epoxy. We had to remove some eyes the other day and it pulled off the powder paint
cadman
Yes, what dlaery said. 2 part epoxy
Musky Glenn
I'm not set up for powder painting so I use createx paint, put the eyes on with the glue on the back of the eye and d2t over the entire head. The eyes don't come off for me. That works for the volumn I make. Musky Glenn
Jig Man
I've been using Crazy glue in the bottle with a brush in it. It has worked fine for me and hasn't left the residue like super glue.
smalljaw
WTP has really good adhesive on the back of their 3D eyes so they stay put but after putting them on I put a coat of Devcon 2 Ton epoxy over the whole head including the eyes to seal them in place. Super glue will hold them on for a short time but after they are in the water for a bit they will fall off unless sealed with a clear coat of some kind. mark poulson
You might try clear nail polish to seal them onto the head.
smallmouthaholic
I use C.I.'s water base paint to airbrush all my spinner baits. Createx will not hold up as well. WTP 3 -d eyes and C.I.'s 2 part, water base epoxy is sprayed over the entire, finished spinner bait and/or buzzbait head.WTP eyes stick well to C.I.'s water base paint and doesn't fillup the eye sockets like powder paint can resulting in a poor eye cavity to hold recessed eyes. Now I'll open a can of worms-I've introduced a complete line of un-painted spinner baits that feature a special, bright alloy, 3-d eyes and epoxy coated heads to seal the eyes in place..Many anglers including myself feel the painted spinner bait head is not necessary and the reduced price for these quality s.b.'s seems to be well received- time will tell. A top quality,3 color spinner bait is now in the upper $6-7+$ range and time consuming to manufacture.
Musky Glenn
I agree with Smallmouthaholic 100%. A lot of the spinner baits I make for myself I leave the lead head naked. If it tarnishes I barely touch it with a knife blade and it brings the shine right back. Saves on eyes also. Musky Glenn
flippinfool
I was looking for some help on glueing eyes on spinnerbaits I powder paint all of my jigs and spinnerbaits. Sounds like you've taken some pride/time in building your baits by powder painting. If the eyes you have are not sticking try heating the head up just a bit with a heat gun. Stick the eyes on and give one quick swipe with Hard as hull http://www.amazon.com/Hard-as-Hull-Head-Cement/dp/B002QFY530 or a similar product. This will hold them in place. As others have said finish with a 2-part epoxy and drop them on a fly turner. This will give you a nice even finish. Jaw
I drill eye sockets in my spinnerbait heads the mold I use doesn't have indentations for the eyes then powder paint the head then fix the eyes in with 5min epoxy if I have the time I also coat the whole head with devcon 2 ton put in on a lure turner turns out good
