Painter1
Can anyone tell me what is the best hook and largest hook that can be used in the RVB-6-1632F mold ? The mold says to use size #4 & #6 hooks but I would like to use a 1/0 if possible. Here is the link http://do-itmolds.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=1_8_27 I am also wondering where I might get the right size teflon "pins" for FG9 size As always, I appreciate your help. dlaery
are you talking about the 1/32 or the 1/16th? With a little modification you could probably get a # 2 in the 1/32, I don't remember if I have that mold, I have the single cavity mold. You might be able to modify it for the 1/0. You will have to watch the distance between the cavities so the eyelet doesn't get into the next cavity. I will look and see if I have this mold and see if the 1/0 will fit. I am assuming you mean a light wire hook. The Eagle Claw 570 or 575 Bronze or Gold is the standard hook for the mold. A Mustad 32750 has a shorter distance from the hook shaft to the eyelet. so that would give you the chance of putting a bigger hook in. this is also a longer shank hook, but the mouth is not bigger. A #4 had a longer shank like a #2, the the mouth is not bigger, it is like a 4 If you don't too many, I can help you out on the teflon pins. I get mine form McMaster-Carr in a roll and cut the length I need. I have 2 sizes 0.072 and 0.078 inch.
smalljaw
I have the assorted cavity mold and I really like it, it allows you to use a variety of hook sizes. On the 1/16oz you can put a #1 for sure, I just ordered 1/0 hooks for it as I'm out but I use 1/0 and 2/0 in the 1/8oz cavity for hair jigs and I use #1 and #2 hooks in the 1/16oz cavity but I believe you could get a 1/0 in there as well. The 1/32 is the least versatile, I use it to tie crappie jigs as it will take a #6 and a #4 but that is it unless you don't want the collar in which case a #2 will fit that you can close the mold, the head will for but the back of the collar won't fill as the #2 hook shank lays right against the cavity wall. dlaery
On the teflon rod, I used 0.072" I don't think I have any of that left. I sold it all. All I have is some 0.078" 1/16 is 0.0625" and that is what a FG9 is.
Painter1
Thanks, SJ. Are you saying the #2 is so big it blocks the flow on the 1/32" ? Thank you fro that picture and the information, David. It looks like the 1/0 will fit the 1/16. Do you think the #1 will fit the 1/32" ? I will be placing another order this week. I would really like to get my whole shopping list covered. Thanks
