tsic
Well it finally happened today, not sure what caused it but maybe because I mixed 2 different brands of plastic that were left over in the bottom of the jugs I cooked 1 cup of this with 5 drops of black and 1/2 tea spoon red flake for 2 min. took it out stirred it and put it in for 1 more min. At 30 sec. the whole batch started smoking. I have never seen 1 cup of plastic over cook in 2.5 min. Luckily I had just installed a new 2 fan ventilation system Any ideas from you pro's

Do you have a way of checking temps? If not get one and if you do check temp every time you stir. This gets you used to how long colors take to heat up. I only go on auto pilot when it is only new plastic. Never when it is colored. But i still check it just before it is done.
tsic
I checked it at 2 min and it wasn't much over 200 my microwave normally takes 3 to get to 325 I mixed the two plastics together in one jug on sat so they blended for 24 hrs. I have been making baits for a couple of years now and never had this happen, and don't want to see it again, one thing I did wrong was to walk away from my bench to put a something away instead of watching things, lesson learned (pay attention)
Frank
Sounds like a microwave malfunction then. 30 seconds to go up 200 degrees thats fast. Not sure mixing plastic would do something like that they all have the basic components. Keep an eye on that microwave.
tsic
I didn't try it after that, I used my presto pot but you maybe right I will run a test batch of new plastic and keep a close watch on it. Thanks
