Bruce Johns
I did a search but really couldn't find anything but here's the deal. I've been watching some of Jake, at dakota lures, videos. I really like the effect of micro glitter in epoxy but am concerned about the yellowing everyone warns about. So, when using MCU, is there a way to get the same effect? Thanks, guys, for all your help.
Nathan
I guess I'm not sure what your question is...Does he mix the glitter with his epoxy?..If so you can mix the glitter with a little polyacrilic and brush it on.When dry you can apply your top coat .I much prefer this method over mixing glitter in my top coat..Nathan
Bruce Johns
Thanks Nathan, That's what I was trying to figure out.
Nathan
Bruce, For me it just works better applying it seperate..Maybe you want a green glitter on the back and silver on the sides you can do it..Plus if you use the ultra fine glitter you can apply it with your air brush.....Nathan
Arkie
I am not a big fan of glitter, but have stumbled onto a few tricks that help me manage its application. With bait painted and heat-set, spray it with straight water. Immediately apply glitter by sprinkling to desired location/effect. Use just enough water to attract and hold the glitter in place. Next, heat-set again. At this point, you can repeat the process to add more glitter, or add a different color, etc. Finally, to prevent the loss or movement of glitter during brushed-on finish, spray the bait with a water-thinned, light coat of Createx top coat. This serves to "glue" the glitter to the bait before applying a brushed on finish...like D2t. This won't completely prevent loose glitter, but greatly reduces its movement and mess...works for me. kajay920
I just borrow my daughters glittered fingernail polish. Not sure if that is a problem for the D2T but it seems to work.
mark poulson
You can add most soft plastic glitter to clear nail polish and get a combo glitter and top coat. Plus it works for coating jigs, too.
O'l Robzilla
I use glitter glue from the dollar store. It will dry clear and the clear coat goes right over it. I have cranks 10+ years and no yellowing.
FrogAddict
I just picked up a bottle of glitter nail polish. It worked just fine. I then dipped in GST when it dried. No problems. The only thing you have to watch out for are the funny looks at the check out.

Know your colors before you go, so they won't think you're totally fashion-challenged.
FrogAddict
Good point Mark. I did spend too much time comparing colors and brands.

I didn't have to thank goodness. And that bottle should last me a long time. I will say though that adding the polish made my floater sink. I was trying to find out how small I could make a buzz bait and still have it float. The dry test went well but when I added the polish.....it sunk. FrogAddict
Update, I've been using Etex instead of GST lately for the shorter working time and I bought some glitter at Wallyworld that I just dump into the epoxy before I apply. Simple and effective.

If it goes much farther than overalls and a ball cap I don't know much about it. Just color me country bumpkin.
FrogAddict
LOL, I prefer a t shirt, shorts and a ball cap. So color me a slob.
O'l Robzilla
I'm finding ultra fine glitter is making a bigger difference in my baits. I found some chartreuse glitter that really pops and isn't to offensive to the eyes. nothing worse than a bait that has too much glitter. its all about moderation. And i always tell the girl at the counter what I'm using it for so I don't look strange buying all this glitter. make sure you're careful with it! it tends to get everywhere.lol
