Coley
Have you guy's noticed how much it cost to get an order shipped from our vendors? I placed an order with Janns last week and the shipping was $9.25 on an order of around $74. The package only weighed 2.1 lbs. I talked to UPS about this high rate and they told me most vendors charge double the actual rate, pay UPS their share and pocket the rest. Not only are they making a profit on their products but, on the shipping as well. This is wrong anyway you look at it. Coley

azbass
If you have an account w/Fedex or UPS, ask your suppliers if they will use your acc't. number for shipping. That way the carrier bills you direct and the shipper has no shipping cost at all.
alsworms
It's that gool 'ol "handling" fee. They must have figured it costs 5 bucks in labor to package your materials. At least that's the response I get when I ask about the high rates.
DeVeryTY
One of my first jobs was shipping art & goods for a museum, mostly by common carrier but a fair amount using UPS and FEDEX, you're right about being charged more for shipping than just the charged rated by the carrier. You'd be surprised at the costs of boxes and the actual labor in processing an order. The cost of cardboard boxes rose every year by almost 10% while I had that job and as I moved up the food chain to other jobs my warehouse people would pass along similair yearly price increases. That 6x6x6" box could be as much as .90 cents a unit or more nowadays depending on how many boxes you buy, heaven forbid if you get a box that's not a standard, the cost can be off the charts. Also you have to factor in the cost to actually put your order together, in a big warehouse the cost in minimized by UPC'ing everything and having a master pull map so the order picker pulls a sheet with the most time efficient method of pulling an order already printed out. Smaller companies of course can't afford these high capital systems so you usually have someone pulling as needed in whatever order works for them, at a relatively high cost. Now i'm not saying that your perception and indignation at being charged such high freight charges isn't justified but it usually costs a smaller company much more to send freight than a larger and that $5 extra might be a real charge. And since moving to Canada a few years ago I've realized how inexpensive freight is shipped in the US compared to the rest of the world. Something that costs $3 in the US to ship ground UPS in the States is usually over $10 here and I'm comparing apples to apples. A little tip for my fellow Canadian residing members never use FEDEX or UPS for shipping from the US, both UPS and FEDEX have their own customs clearing houses where they charge a minimum of $15 to clear your package and if their is any duty involved the price just goes up. I always use USPS or CP to ship and be shipped to, you don't save much on the Canada Post side but regualr parcel from the US for a lb. or under is amazingly low, I recieved a book last little bit ago from Montana and the post cost was 57 cents. It also doesn't hurt to complain to a company, I know I've "subsidized" shipping for a customer to keep the business. Just my 2 cents (1.3 cents Canadian) DeVery

Delw
DeveryTY very well said, i takes time to package boxs and fill orders, suplies also run a good bill not to mention the charges for ups/fedex to come out and pick things up, this all adds up. do it every day and you spend a good chunk of changes. also need to add in the fact that home shipping is more expesive than to business, and even though you have a business at your home in some case's you still have to pay for home shipping(due to residential areas. years ago Bassproshops used to charge by the dollar amount they made some major money on certain Items(for example a 400-600 reel 700-800 fishing pole even a 2000 dollar firearm you would pay 50-175 bucks shipping. Ive payed more fo shipping on broad heads than the broadheads cost back then. wait for price increases on shipping in the near future by the major shipping companies this would be due to higher gas prices, my freight went up 2 times in the last year Delw
Richoc
I had to ship some emergency jigs out to the casino at devils lake. So I called the casino to see whom dropped there. Was an standard overnight. 8oz of little jigs. $18.76 to ship it. Also did not get there over night. : Went out 9:50:14am monday and was not there till 12:50pm something pm wensday. No refund, cause they said( Later )not guarantied to that location. Still looking at the receipt because the guy has not paid me yet. ( will see him tomarrow, I hope) They wonder why if I can I drive the jigs to them and demand for them to take me out so I can make shure they know exactly how it should be fished.
