tommegna
Does anyone know where to buy or how to make a jig for wire bending to put through a musky 6" crankbait. Thanks in advance. TOM MEGNA
Reelentless
I've seen a 2x4 with finish nails with the tops cut off used as a jig.
BobP
X2. I don't really see a way of doing it except with jig - or going after it "freehand".
RayburnGuy
A board and finish nails is what I've used to make my wire through harnesses for bass sized lures. They're not as big or as heavy as musky sized baits, but the principle is the same. Just lay the bait down on top of a board and draw a line around it. Now just draw in where you want the line ties and hook hangers to be and drive the finish nails into the places where the wire needs to be bent. Be sure to adjust your wire through for where the ballast will be. Ben
Stash Baits
When you use thicker diameter wire for Muskie lures, you might wanna use heavier nails. They won't pull or bend as easy when you shape that thick wire in your jig.
tommegna
I used heavy nails with heads cut off. Then I epoxied the nails into the board. The nails still bent off. Them problem is I used 0.060 wire, same as bucktails I make. Here I used a Hagen's Wire Former. It doesn't seem to work for a Musky Lure Wire. Thanks for the help. TIGHT LINES Captain Tom Megna. pat28
Industry made wire bending jigs such as Lee Valley sells have removable pins instead of nails for bigger wire. Those pins don't bend. Hence, just take a metal rod (something like 3/16) that you cut into small pins, file the edges and drill matching holes in your bending jig. I prefer to use a hardwood goard for this as big wire will affect softer woods by its leverage on the pins. Pat
