You can actually etch with a 9V battery and a Q-tip.... google DIY etching.... a guy in my office makes knives, he's ethced the blades with his logo and it looks pretty damn good. You'll want/need to do it on a flat or cylindrical surface - but may be an option if you're looking for something VERY SUBTLE and hand work with a dremel isn't you're cup of tea.
