danny boy
hey guys i have been told by my supplier that i can powder coat up to NO:10 colorado blades in a 3 inch fluid bed ? is that right? what about big willowleafs? Kasilofchrisn
You can make you fluid bed cups as wide and tall as you like. I usually run 2" wide by 12" tall cups for my saltwater slab jigs. The bigger the cups the more air and paint you need so size your pump accordingly. If you dont mind both sides being painted it should work. You can paint whatever size blades fit in your fluid bed. cadman
Danny, As far as fluid beds go, if you use them, then yes you will get paint on both sides, because you will have to dip them. You can make any size fluid bed, that is up to you. Depends on how long the blade is, but a fluid bed at full boil, should be 1" give or take boiling from the top down. A 55 gal air pump will usually push enough powder to make it suspend having a two port outlet going into a tee and then into a valve. In the fluid beds I built, it takes about 6 oz of powder paint. Mutli-color is very do-able( is that a word) as well on blades . The picture below shows matching blades on a spinnerbait. The blades are #5 and #4 willows and are only painted on the convex side. The concave side is silver nickle. This can be done with any number of colors, however you have to lay out what you want where. There's a lot of good advice here. Depends on what you want your blades to look like. If you want to make blades similar to the pic below, PM me and we can go over the process
nedyarb
I would paint them with createx paint, and then dip them in gst. Powder paint will add a lot of weight to a large blade!
danny boy
thanks to everyone for the help, cadman your info helps a lot for the bed ,but for now i will do one color to test but not sure yet with bed or not!
danny boy
ned i am curius about what you said:weight of paint! but am not familiar with craetex and gst? could you elaborate? thanks
danny boy
by the way cadman your bldes look great!
nedyarb
I feel the added weight of the powder paint effects the action of the blades. Createx is usually sprayed on with an airbrush, it's a water based paint. Gst is a concrete sealer , but it takes about a month to cure.
