bryanmc
Has anyone experimented with using RTV for a lead mold? I'm wanting to duplicate some small weights (9g) and was wondering if quick-set or high strength would be up to the task heat wise. Only need to do 6 - 10 castings. andy1976
This gets asked all the time. Bondo works great. Rev also works. Search high temp silicone.
bryanmc
This gets asked all the time. Bondo works great. Rev also works. Search high temp silicone. I was asking about two specific products, I can't find where either have been referred to as far as being used for a lead mold. Thanks though. dlaery
for some reason forums won't search for 3 letter words. RTV should work fine for your weights. It should do hundreds of pours. go to smooth on dot com. I know they have lots of choices, maybe call their tech support. try this thread http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/23425-mold-material/?hl=rhodia#entry175633

andy1976
Sorry didn't mean to be rude if it came across thay way. I tried a lot of stuff including silicone and found bondo to be the best for lead. Good luck
jdr418
Years ago I bought some RTV from Barlows and made several molds. I still have them and have cast many lures with them. I think the product was Dow/Corning 3120. If you want to use RTV find some 3120 or a product with similar specifications. It will work and make lots of lures. One secret I learned was to keep the lead just above melting point and dust the mold with talcum powder after a few pours.
